In the West, everything that is possible is sold this way: electronics, mobile phones, household appliances and cars.

In Russia, trade-in is also beginning to enjoy great popularity, especially when it comes to selling cars. What are the advantages and disadvantages of trade-in?

The main advantage is a significant time saving. You can arrive at such a salon in an old car and leave in a new one in a few hours. Although not any car will be accepted from you. Relatively new foreign-made cars, whose age does not exceed five years, are in the greatest demand, and a ten-year-old car will also be accepted from you. Older cars are unlikely to be accepted. Domestic-made cars older than five years are not in demand either. Cars more expensive than 1,5 million rubles are also not particularly accepted.

The more complete the car you provide, the more money you get. Appraisers pay attention to every little thing - if, for example, a spare set of keys is lost, then several thousand rubles will be deducted from the cost. Each, even the smallest scratch or dent is another minus 5-10 thousand rubles.

Some believe that if they putty and repaint all minor scratches, cracks and chips before going to the trade-in salon, then appraisers will not notice this. On the contrary, with the help of a paintwork thickness gauge, the manager will be able to determine all these places and you still have to prove that the car has not been in an accident.

The price of a car, as a rule, is 10 percent lower than its real market value, and this applies only to foreign cars or domestic cars no older than five years.

You can even roughly estimate how much you will receive in a trade-in. If, for example, Renault Logan 2009-11 in the car market will cost approximately 250-350 thousand rubles, then in trade-in - 225-315 thousand, respectively. The cost is also affected by the results of diagnostics, which the owner of the car is not allowed to, but is carried out behind closed doors.

They can also offer you mediation, that is, they leave the car in the cabin, but they take the same 10 percent for their services. They offer very little money for old cars, so it’s more profitable to simply sell them for scrap or look for a buyer on your own.
