What is a car intake manifold and what is it for?

The intake manifold is the part that internal combustion engine vehicles use to supply air to the engine's cylinders. The good condition and purity of the sun is vital to creating the right mixture of oxygen and fuel.

Internal combustion engines have many elements, systems and sensors, thanks to which the engine runs properly and the car can move forward.

An internal combustion engine needs oxygen so that it can make the right mixture with fuel and supply the required amount to the cylinders, there is an intake manifold. This element plays a decisive role in the process of producing an explosion, which makes the vehicle mobile.

What is an intake manifold?

The intake manifold is the part of the engine responsible for supplying air to the cylinders. This air is essential for fuel combustion and an ideal intake manifold design will be essential to ensure adequate air intake.

We can find it bolted to the head of the engine, exactly in the area where air enters the cylinders. Thus, we can define it as an air duct that guarantees optimal air flow to the unit.

Typically, the intake manifold is a piece of aluminum or high-strength plastic and is very carefully designed to ensure that there is enough air entering the cylinders.

Types of air collectors 

1.- Conventional intake manifold. It is used in some cars with single point injection systems, however they are falling out of favor. As one might expect, one disadvantage is that they do not have the necessary flexibility to adapt to different engine operating conditions.

2.- Adjustable intake manifold. The variable manifold is designed to facilitate the supply of air to the cylinders, but depending on the speed at which the engine is running at a given time. They are usually used in engines with 4 valves per cylinder, solving the problem of lack of torque at low revs.

This type of forager has a system of fins that are better known as butterflies. Its operation requires an electronic control that guarantees air supply through the short section at low speeds and through the long section at high speeds.
