Ciatim-221. Characteristics and application

Features

Ciatim-221 grease is produced in accordance with the technical requirements of GOST 9433-80. In its primary state, it is a viscous liquid based on organosilicon, to which high molecular weight metal soaps are added to improve consistency. The final product is a homogeneous light brown ointment. In order to reduce oxidizability during mechanochemical contact reactions that begin at elevated temperatures, antioxidant additives are included in the lubricant composition.

Ciatim-221. Characteristics and application

The main parameters of this lubricant according to GOST 9433-80 are:

  1. Dynamic viscosity, Pa s, at -50°C, no more than 800.
  2. droplet start temperature, °C, not lower - 200.
  3. Recommended application temperature range - from -50°From to 100°C (the manufacturer claims that up to 150°C, but most users do not confirm this).
  4. Maximum pressure maintained (at room temperature) by a lubricating layer of optimal thickness, Pa - 450.
  5. Colloidal stability,% - not higher than 7.
  6. Acid number in terms of NaOH, not higher than 0,08.

Mechanical impurities and water in the lubricant must be absent. After freezing, the properties of the product are fully restored.

Ciatim-221. Characteristics and application

What is it used for?

Like its predecessor - Ciatim-201 grease - the product is used to protect low-loaded rubbing surfaces of mechanical equipment parts from frictional wear, which is accompanied by active surface oxidation. To this end, it is always necessary to ensure a sufficient thickness of the lubricating layer, which should not be less than 0,1 ... 0,2 mm. In this case, the stress drop in the layer is usually up to 10 Pa/μm.

Similar conditions are typical for various equipment - agricultural machinery, metal-cutting machines, automobiles, bearing assemblies of materials handling equipment, etc. Given the excellent resistance to corrosion, the described lubricant is especially readily used for machines operating in conditions of high humidity.

Ciatim-221. Characteristics and application

Positive features of Ciatim-221 lubricant:

  • the product is well retained on the contact surfaces, even with their complex configuration;
  • does not change its properties during sudden temperature changes;
  • frost resistance;
  • indifference of impact to rubber;
  • economy of consumption, which is associated with a low volatility of the product.

According to its consumer characteristics, Ciatim-221 is significantly superior to grease. Therefore, the product in question is readily recommended for the maintenance of hydraulic accumulators, steering gears of cars, generators, bearing systems of pumps, compressors, tensioning units and other parts that can constantly get moisture. A variation of this lubricant is Ciatim-221f, which additionally contains fluorine and is adapted to an extended temperature range of use.

Restrictions

The Ciatim-221 lubricant is ineffective if the equipment is operated for a long time at extremely low temperatures. It should also be noted that this product, due to relatively high viscosity, contributes to an increase in contact resistance (by 15...20%). The reason for this is the weak electrical properties that Cyatim-221 exhibits at high temperatures. For the same reason, grease is not recommended for use in rubbing parts of power electrical devices.

Litol or Ciatim. What's better?

Litol-24 is a grease designed to reduce temperatures and friction coefficient in units with developed contact surfaces. That is why its composition includes various plasticizers that are not in Ciatim lubricants.

The higher viscosity of Litol-24 grease provides the material with increased resistance to runoff from the treated surface. Therefore, Litol-24 is effective in friction units of machines operating at higher pressures than those indicated in the standard characteristics of Ciatim-221.

Ciatim-221. Characteristics and application

Another feature of Litol is the ability to work in an anaerobic environment and even in a vacuum, where all lubricant products of the Ciatim line are powerless.

Both lubricants are characterized by low toxicity.
