Citroën C5 Tourer 2.2 HDi FAP (125 kW) Exclusive

How quickly they have worked (are working) at Citroën in recent years is evidenced by our News. If you turn a few pages back, you will notice that most of the news we have devoted to the new products of the aforementioned French car manufacturer.

We expect new versions of the refreshed C3 to arrive in the near future, not to mention the ambition to sell the cute (personal) Nemo, the useful Berlingo or the beautiful C5.

Despite the rich offer of new products, C5 is the most advanced. The exterior is pleasant and modern compared to its predecessor's warm image, and the interior and chassis are still very Citroën-like, so traditionalists won't be disappointed.

Citroën mainly offered two chassis: the very comfortable Hydractive III + and the classic, with spring struts and two triangular rails (front) and a multi-link axle (rear). One for traditional Citroën customers who want the utmost in comfort and the other for new customers who like shape (technology, price ...) but don't want an active chassis. However, it is worth looking at the price list before buying, as the classic chassis is designed for less powerful versions and is actively being added to more powerful engines.

In the Auto store, we tested the second most powerful turbodiesel version with a six-speed manual transmission and an active chassis.

Perhaps the aforementioned version is even the best compromise between performance, price and, due to the back of the van, also usability.

The appearance is beautiful, there is probably no doubt about it. Rounded body curves with a few chrome accents are eye-catching, while dual xenon active headlights and parking sensors in the front and rear make the vehicle a few inches easier to drive. There seems to be more behind the wheel of the C5 than it really is, so consider a gauge even if you've taken your driving test for 100 years and drive over 50 miles each year.

Inside, however, Citroën's designers managed to combine the new with the traditional. The new ones are, of course, the shape of the dashboard, instruments and seats, and the old ones are the fixed inner part of the steering wheel and. . ha, a small screen above the air conditioner and radio.

We've already seen (and tested) the steering wheel in the C4 and C4 Picasso, and we've already read the data from Peugeot on a similar screen. Good morning PSA group. Judge for yourself whether you like such a steering wheel, and most in the editorial staff would rather attribute it to the minuses than to the pluses of the car. The fixed middle part of the steering wheel is not annoying, the congestion of the buttons is much more annoying.

We've listed up to 20 different buttons, some of which also have multiple functions. If you are a computer wizard, you will feel right at home, and if you get behind the wheel of an elderly gentleman, you are likely to soon get lost in the myriad of control options.

It should be noted that the controls are relatively easy to use, and the buttons are coated with a thin silicone coating for a better feel. If you're a fan of silicone or would like to get a feel for it someday, the Citroën C5 is the right address. I'm telling you, it's not that bad. .

Citroën has long been known for its thoughtfulness, so the seats in the test car were also upholstered in leather, and the drivers also had the option of heating and massage. Since the skin is generally very cold, does it get warm - especially in winter? a good thing. Perhaps we should only criticize the placement (and origin) of the rotary knob, as the possibility of inadvertent rotation when entering or exiting is high, and it is also unpleasant to use.

Massage is another thing that you can easily miss, even if your back no longer serves you as well as it did in the old days.

Instead of a massage (feeling like a child in the back seat is pushing the back of your seat with their feet, which is standard on all cars for some parents) and the already seen warning of sudden change of direction without a turn signal, Personally, I would have preferred a wider longitudinal steering wheel.

Or, even better, the pedal is slightly more forward, as the steering wheel-pedal-seat triangle side is slightly more modest in the distance between the seat and the pedals.

We were missing a few more storage space on the modern dashboard, but the dashboard is nice and well filled with data. They have hidden the fuel gauge in the far left corner, while the speedometer reigns in the middle, which is accompanied by the engine RPM gauge on the right.

There is still a lot of data in the individual meters that are displayed in clear digital form, including the amount of engine oil and the temperature of the coolant. Z

animiv is a speed indicator that moves on a scale on the outside of the counter. Maybe that's why the meter isn't as transparent, but you can help yourself by putting your digital speed inside the meter.

You know, I'd rather have two of your sensors than one cop called a radar. ... The fact that electric power steering is quite common in the new C5 is evidenced by the driver's seat, which moves closer to the steering wheel at every start (and then removed when the driver leaves), and the trunk, which opens with buttons.

Do you have two options for opening? with a key or a back hook, just press the button to close and the door will close slowly and elegantly.

Needless to say, there is plenty of space in the trunk. The rear seats can be folded down a third, luggage can be secured with anchors, you can even pull the bag hook out of the sidewalls, and in the event of an accident or an empty tire at night, you can also use the (originally installed) floor lamp. ...

A technical pleasure, of course, is the Hydractive III + chassis. Speaking of the trunk? the active chassis allows the rear to be lowered (via a button in the trunk) to facilitate loading, but you can also raise the car and, say, drive slowly over a higher curb.

This is not the smartest decision, although the difference between the extreme positions is as much as six centimeters. When driving on the highway, it is slightly lower for greater safety, but in any case, the comfort is at the highest level. It swallows holes better than blue plankton and crabs, and thanks to a more dynamic ride, you can also strengthen the chassis.

The difference with the sporty chassis program is obvious, but we missed out on a more indirect steering wheel, which would actually give a little more pleasure even with more dynamic cornering.

Full acceleration is interesting. If you look in your rearview mirror, you will be looking at the asphalt at full throttle and not at the traffic behind you. An active chassis (if you don't have a sports chassis) naturally responds gently to the powerful engine at the front of the car. We are, of course, talking about a 2-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine, which with two turbochargers and third-generation Common Rail technology provides as much as 2 kilowatts or more of domestic 125 "horses".

The engine is powerful, but by no means wild, so traffic flows can be chased on moderate gas. This is also known later at the gas station, as with a moderate right foot you will also get an average consumption of 8 liters. The new C5 forces you to use the softness of the chassis and the quietness in the cabin, instead of raging on the roads, and enjoy the music coming from quality speakers.

The drivetrain is better than we're used to with the PSA group, but it will tell you right away that it likes smooth and slow gear changes and doesn't like the driver's fast and rough right hand. In short, slowly and with pleasure. Doesn't that apply to all good things?

The new Citroën C5 has come close to the crowd with its pleasing design, but its superior comfort makes it unique and therefore alone at the top. But silicone and massage on a water bed (read active chassis) are not cheap, especially for everyone.

Overall rating (339/420)

  • The Citroën C5 Tourer is a true family van that indulges above all in space and comfort. That's the thing with these machines, isn't it?

  • Exterior (14/15)

Nice, although some would argue that the limousine is prettier.

  • Interior (118/140)

Plenty of space in the cabin and trunk, a little less points in ergonomics and manufacturing precision.

  • Engine, transmission (35

    / 40)

A modern engine that has also proven itself in practice. Slightly worse gearbox performance.

  • Driving performance (66

    / 95)

Comfortable, reliable, but not racing at all. I would like more directness behind the wheel.

  • Performance (30/35)

The new C5 with a 2,2-liter turbodiesel is fast, agile and moderately thirsty.

  • Security (37/45)

An excellent indicator of active and passive safety, the result with a braking distance is slightly worse.

  • Economy

Favorable fuel consumption, good warranty, slightly higher cost loss expected.
