Corolla updated to sports version
The Japanese manufacturer introduced to the public a new model Apex Edition, which will be released in a limited edition. According to Toyota, a total of 6 units of the sports car will be manufactured. While it is known that the entire series will be intended for the American market. This car is ideal for lovers of a sporty, but at the same time comfortable ride.
From the known modifications SE and XSE, the new Corolla will visually differ only in underlined aerodynamic elements:
- Body kits;
- Spoiler;
- Air inlet diffusers;
- Black moldings.
However, the main merit of sports behavior on the road are not these elements, but an improved suspension. Development tests were conducted at the Japanese TMC Higashi-Fuji circuit. To adapt the car to American roads, the test was additionally conducted in America on the Arizona Proving Ground and MotorSport Ranch (Texas).
The shock absorber system is equipped with spring stops, which minimizes the swing of the body at high speed. The springs have become more rigid. In addition to these changes, the novelty is equipped with a side stability stabilizer. Ground clearance has decreased by 15,2 mm. The entire front suspension became stiffer by 47 percent, and the rear - by 37 percent.
The wheel arches will feature lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels. The model will also receive revised software for power steering and stabilizer systems. The exhaust system is made of stainless steel.
The Corolla Apex Edition sports car will be available only with a two-liter engine (develops 171 horsepower, which is not very suitable for a sports car). Given that this is not a track model, the power unit is quite modest, as for a sports car. Transmission is a variator, but 120 copies will be equipped with a mechanical gearbox in six gears. This modification will be supplemented by the function of equalizing the speed when downshifting.
Multimedia with an 8-inch screen is standard on the sports sedan. The software supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As assistants for the driver, the manufacturer installed the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 kit. Among the options available adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance (braking system and emergency brake), as well as automatic high beam adjustment.
