Oil pressure sensor UAZ Patriot 409

The oil pressure sensor in the UAZ Patriot engine is an important component of the lubrication system. It requires significant attention from the owner of the SUV we are considering. The sensor allows you to continuously monitor the pressure and sufficiency of lubrication in a running engine. Component information is displayed on the dashboard in the cab. The sensor beeps.

Today, almost all owners are aware of the threat posed to the engine by the lack of the necessary pressure or amount of oil in the system. That is why the serviceability of the specified sensor is the key to long-term operation of the engine. If the sensor beeps, it must be replaced. However, not many car owners know where the device is and how to fix it.

Today we will pay attention to this component and consider the features of the device, the principle of signal transmission, tell you where it is located, and also how to replace a sensor that has become unusable.

Oil pressure sensor design

From the point of view of the design features of the UAZ Patriot engine sensor, we can safely say that the element is a fairly simple device. The product is made in the form of a metal box, inside of which the manufacturer has placed a float. It moves along the pipe. The float has a magnet, and the tube is equipped with a special electrical contact, which is controlled by this same magnet.

When the pressure in the circuit decreases, the magnet closes the contact, as a result of which the resulting voltage is transferred to the board. As we know, it has a special indicator. It is he who is the receiver of the given signal, which the driver learns about by highlighting the symbol.

In parallel with the indicator, the “Check Engine” icon lights up, which often scares the timid driver. The inscription recommends stopping the movement until the reasons are clarified.

The UAZ Patriot, equipped with the Euro 3 system, has two sensors, one of which is the component we are considering. The second sensor is designed to transmit a signal pulse to the built-in controller. The element has the shape of a barrel, in which a resistor is built in, capable of changing the resistance value. The sensor sends information about the pressure in the engine lubrication system to the on-board computer. Thus, we summarize that the first sensor performs an alarming function, and the second is endowed with the mission of transmitting information. Let's see where he is now.

During normal engine operation, few owners pay much attention to the sensor. When an element starts signaling an engine failure, Patriot owners frantically search for the causes and solutions.

The cost of the element is low - about 500 rubles. Replacement should be dealt with in cases where the fact of failure of the signaling device is confirmed. On the UAZ Patriot, the sensor we are considering is located in the upper part of the engine block, or rather, on its right side. The device transmits pulses on an adjacent cable.

Sometimes there are situations when the oil sensor becomes unusable. How to replace and understand where it is? Now consider the features of the repair procedure.

Replacing the oil pressure sensor

You can carry out the replenishment process with your own hands, without resorting to the help of service station employees. For successful work, the owner will need to use tools such as:

  • keys to "17" and "22";
  • screwdriver.
  1. Let's start removing the old sensor.
  2. Open the hood and look for its location (indicated above).
  3. Weaken the tightening torques for fastening the tip on the power cable, after which we remove the cable.
  4. Unscrew the oil pressure sensor.
  5. We install a new product in its original place, performing all the manipulations in the reverse order of the disassembly process.

We start the engine and make sure that there is no annoying glow of the indicator on the panel. Now the process can be considered completed.

A very important circumstance in this matter is the ability to detect the moment of sensor failure. Let's pay a little more attention to this aspect and consider what kind of failures such an unpleasant incident may indicate.

Malfunctions

Owners of the brutal UAZ Patriot sometimes observe the following picture: when driving, the oil pressure light starts to glow treacherously, and a sound accompanies this action, that is, the panel beeps. What does this mean, the alarmed driver will think? First you need to stop the SUV, turn off the engine, wait a few minutes and check the oil level. If it is normal, then you can suspect a failed oil pressure sensor.

Another thing is when the Euro 3 system is installed on the UAZ Patriot. Here, among the reasons, there may be a malfunction of the SUV's on-board network. Naturally, you need to check. A broken wire, short circuit or oxidation is far from uncommon. The presence of a new serviceable sensor, which the owner must purchase, will help here. After replacing and starting the engine, we look at the dashboard: if the chirping of the sensor is still audible, it is recommended to turn it off. Some modifications of the UAZ Patriot after 2012 no longer had these signal elements in their design.

When the sensor beeps, it will be effective to disconnect the power cable, after which a 1 kΩ resistor should be soldered into its circuit.

On UAZ Patriot equipped with Euro 3, with an identical problem, it is recommended to check the absence of back pressure on the oil filter.

An easier way to get rid of this malfunction is to install a sensor from KamAZ.

Mounting the pointer sensor

The most effective option can be considered an element with a graduated scale, giving the driver the ability to control the level of oil pressure in real time. To install such an oil pressure sensor on a Patriot, you will need the following auxiliary tools:

  • a hose through which the device is connected to the engine;
  • union

Installation.

  1. We select a point in the cabin to install the sensor. We drill a hole (as in the photo).
  2. We mount the product in the constructed hole, fasten and connect the hose, which we bring to the engine.

Now it turns out that there is no regular sensor. The board can squeak about this "event". How to eliminate this "cost of production"? Simple - we use a resistor with a resistance of 110 kOhm. We solder one of its "legs" to the edge of the standard sensor cable, and the second to the "mass" of the UAZ Patriot engine.

The replacement is complete, but it doesn't hurt to check the condition of the component.

To summarize

An indisputable fact is that one of the important elements of the UAZ Patriot engine lubrication system is an oil pressure sensor under pressure. Its signal, i.e. when the sensor beeps, on the dashboard should be a reason for the owner to take decisive action. In other words, it needs to be replaced. If you neglect this problem, then you can "reach" the engine repair. Therefore, preventive measures to identify a faulty sensor are always much more effective and cheaper than an expensive restoration of the power unit.
