The engine parameters control module in any car (for example, VAZ 2114) requires a large amount of data to process. For example, the following information is needed to correctly form the composition of the air-fuel mixture:
- room temperature;
- engine temperature;
- the volume of air passing through the intake manifold;
- oxygen saturation of the air flow;
- vehicle speed;
- throttle opening degree.
The VAZ 2114 throttle sensor is responsible for the last item, it determines how open the channel is for fresh air to enter the intake manifold. When the driver presses on the "gas", the throttle assembly opens.
How to get throttle angle data?
Purpose of the design of the throttle position sensor of a VAZ car
The throttle position sensor (TPS) mechanically detects the throttle angle and converts it into an electrical signal. The data is sent to the car's electronic brain for processing.
Important! Without this device, the operation of the motor goes out of normal mode. In fact, the car cannot be used. Although you can get to the place of repair on your own - the engine will not stall.
The simplest sensor is a variable resistor that changes resistance as its axis rotates. This design is easy to manufacture, inexpensive and is actively used on VAZ vehicles. However, it has a serious drawback: the material of the working track of the resistor wears out over time, the device fails. Car owners try not to use such devices, the acquisition can only be associated with one-time cost savings.
The most popular are non-contact sensors, which have no friction nodes in the electrical part. Only the axis of rotation wears out, but the wear is negligible. It is these sensors that are installed on most modern engines of the VAZ 2114 series and the “ten” preceding them.
Despite the overall reliability, the node can fail.

How to understand that the DPDZ VAZ 2114 is broken?
Symptoms of a malfunction may coincide with the failure of other sensors responsible for creating the fuel mixture:
- high idle speed;
- deterioration of the throttle response of the car - it can easily stall when starting off;
- power reduction - a loaded car practically does not pull;
- with the gradual addition of "gas" the engine is compressed, the thrust "fails;
- unstable idle;
- when shifting gears, the engine may stall.
A broken VAZ 2114 (2115) sensor can produce three types of distorted information:
- complete lack of information;
- the damper is unlocked;
- the damper is blocked.
Depending on this, the symptoms of a malfunction may vary.
Checking the throttle sensor of a VAZ 2114 car
You can use a simple multimeter to check.
Checking the status of TPS without removing
It is necessary to turn on the ignition (we do not start the engine) and connect the tester leads to the connector pins. To do this, you can use needles or thin steel wire.
Tip: do not pierce the insulation of the wires with needles, over time, the current-carrying cores may oxidize.
Mode of operation: continuous voltage measurement up to 20 volts.
When the throttle is closed, the voltage across the device should be between 4-5 volts. If the reading is significantly lower, then the device is faulty.
Have an assistant depress the accelerator pedal lightly or move the accelerator pedal manually. As the gate rotates, the voltage should drop to 0,7 volts. If the value changes abruptly or does not change at all, the sensor is defective.
Testing filmed TPS
In this case, the multimeter is transferred to the position of measuring resistance. Using a screwdriver or other tool, carefully turn the sensor shaft. On a working device, the ohmmeter readings should change smoothly.
You can also check the status of the sensor using a diagnostic scanner. Any bag reader will do, even a simple Chinese ELM 327. Using the VAZ 2114 diagnostic program, we display data on the computer screen, evaluate the state of the TPS.
Replacing the sensor
Like any other vehicle electronics, the throttle sensor changes when the negative battery terminal is reset. For disassembly, a Phillips screwdriver is sufficient. Disconnect the connector and unscrew the fixing screws.
Remove the sensor and wipe the clutch area with a dry cloth. If necessary, apply some grease to the throttle shaft. Then we install a new sensor, put on the connector and connect the battery.
Important! After replacing the sensor, it is necessary to start the engine and let it idle for a while.
After that, gradually add speed several times without moving the car. The electronic control unit (ECU) must be adapted to the new sensor. Then we operate the machine as usual.
