Speed ​​sensor on a VAZ 2114: problems and replacement

On all front-wheel drive VAZ cars with injection engines, such as 2114 and the like, speed sensors are installed. That is, now the speed of the car is determined precisely by its readings, and not by the mechanical effect of the speedometer cable, as it was before.

Quite often, the owners of VAZ 2114-2115 are faced with such a problem when the speedometer needle starts to walk in random order, or the speed data differ noticeably from the real one. In this case, the first reason why these problems can arise is the failure of the speed sensor.

In order to replace it, the ideal option would be to drive into the inspection hole and do this whole operation from under the car. To make everything look more clearly, a photo description of the entire work will be presented below.

So, first of all, we disconnect the terminal from the negative terminal on the battery. To do this, you need a 10 key or a head with a small knob. When you have coped with this, you can proceed further. It is necessary to disconnect the plug with the power supply wires from the sensor.

To disconnect this block with a wiring harness, you need to squeeze the metal clips and pull this knot up:

Now we turn the old sensor out of the gearbox housing, for which you may need a 22 mm open-end wrench. Although, in most cases, everything is perfectly unscrewed by hand. Then we take a new part and install it in the reverse order.

As you can see, the old sensor was connected directly to the plug, and in the new one there is, as it were, an extension cord with a wire, but there is not much difference in them.

As for the cost of these parts, the price of a new speed sensor on the VAZ 2114-2115 model can be about 350 rubles for the cheapest option of domestic production.
