Accord 7 sensors

A modern car is a complex electronic-mechanical system controlled by microprocessor devices. Various sensors read information about the engine operating mode, the state of vehicle systems, and climate parameters.

In the Honda Accord 7, the sensors have a high degree of reliability. Given that most of them are in extreme operating conditions, periodically sensors can fail. In this case, the vehicle control units (engine, ABS, body, climate control, and others) do not receive reliable information, which leads to incorrect operation of these systems or a complete failure of performance.

Consider the sensors of the main systems of the Accord 7 car, the causes and signs of their failure, and troubleshooting methods.

Engine control sensors

The largest number of sensors in the Accord 7 is in the engine management system. In fact, the engine is the heart of the car. The operation of a car depends on its numerous parameters, which are measured by sensors. The main sensors of the engine management system are:

crankshaft sensor. This is the main engine sensor. Controls the radial position of the crankshaft relative to the zero point. This sensor monitors the ignition and fuel injection signals. If this sensor is faulty, the car will not start. As a rule, a complete failure of the sensor is preceded by a certain time, when, after starting and warming up the engine, it suddenly stops, then after 10-15 minutes after cooling it starts again, warms up and stops again. In such a situation, the sensor must be changed. The main working element of the sensor is an electromagnetic coil made of a very thin conductor (slightly thicker than a human hair). When heated, it heats up geometrically, the conductors are disconnected, the sensor loses its functionality. Accord 7 sensors

Camshaft sensor. Controls the timing of the crankshaft and camshaft. If it is violated, for example, misfires or a broken timing belt, the engine is turned off. Your device is about the same as the crankshaft sensor.

The sensor is located next to the timing belt pulley.

Coolant temperature sensors. They are designed for:

  • engine ignition timing control depending on the engine temperature;
  • timely switching on of the cooling fans of the radiator of the engine cooling system;
  • maintenance of the engine temperature gauge on the dashboard.

These sensors periodically fail - your work surface is in an aggressive antifreeze environment. Therefore, it is important that the cooling system is filled with "native" antifreeze. If the gauges on the dashboard are not working properly, there may be incorrect engine temperature readings, the engine may overheat, and when the engine warms up, the idle speed will not decrease.

The sensors are located next to the thermostat.

Flow meter (mass air flow sensor). This sensor is responsible for the correct air/fuel ratio. If it is faulty, the engine may not start or run rough. This sensor has a built-in air temperature sensor. Sometimes you can get it back up and running by gently flushing it with carb cleaner. The most likely cause of failure is “hot” wear of the sensor filament. The sensor is located in the air intake.

Accord 7 sensors

Throttle position sensor. Installed in the air intake system directly on the Honda Accord throttle body, it is a resistive type. During operation, potentiometers wear out. If the sensor is faulty, the engine speed increase will be intermittent. Appearance of the sensor.

Accord 7 sensors

Oil pressure sensor. Breaks infrequently. As a rule, failure is associated with long-term parking. Located next to the fuel filter.

Accord 7 sensors

Oxygen sensors (lambda probe). They are responsible for the formation of the working mixture in the required concentration, monitor the performance of the catalyst. When they fail, fuel consumption increases sharply, the concentration of toxic substances in the exhaust gases is disturbed. These sensors have a limited resource, during the operation of the car they must be changed, as they fail. Sensors are located in the exhaust system before and after the catalyst.

Automatic transmission sensors

The automatic transmission uses a variety of sensors to control modes. Main sensors:

  • Vehicle speed sensor. It is an electromagnetic sensor located in the housing near the output shaft of the Honda Accord 7 automatic transmission. In the event of a malfunction, the speed data on the dashboard disappears (the speedometer needle falls), the gearbox goes into emergency mode.

  • Automatic transmission selection sensor. In the event of a sensor malfunction or its displacement, recognition of the moment the automatic transmission mode is selected is violated. In this case, the engine start may be blocked, the gear shift indicator signals the cessation of burning.

ABS Accord 7

ABS, or anti-lock braking system, regulates the speed of the wheels. Main sensors:

  • Wheel speed sensors (four for each wheel). Errors in one of the sensors are the most likely cause of a malfunction in the ABS system. In this case, the system as a whole loses its effectiveness. The sensors are located very close to the wheel hub, so they are used in the most extreme conditions. In most cases, its failure is not associated with a malfunction of the sensor, but with a violation of the wiring (break), contamination of the place where the wheel speed signal is read.
  • Acceleration sensor (g-sensor). He is responsible for the stability of the exchange rate. It rarely fails.

Headlamp dimmer system

This system must be installed if xenon headlights are used. The main sensor in the system is the body position sensor, which is connected to the wheel arm. If it fails, the luminous flux of the headlights remains in a constant position, regardless of the inclination of the body. It is not allowed to operate a car with such a malfunction (if xenon is installed).

Body Management System

This system is responsible for the operation of the wipers, washers, lighting, central locking. One sensor that has problems is the rain sensor. He is very sensitive. If during the process of washing the car with non-standard means, aggressive liquids get into it, it may fail. Often problems with the sensor occur after replacing the windshield. The sensor is located at the top of the windshield.
