Structurally, the VAZ 2107 is not considered a complex device (especially when it comes to carburetor models of the "seven"). Due to the comparative simplicity of the car's mechanisms, many owners can independently service it and carry out repair work. But with some elements, problems may arise - for example, with a generator. Not all car owners know how to work with electrical appliances, which is the reason for frequent mistakes when replacing and connecting generators on their own.

The generator on the VAZ 2107 functions in close connection with the battery. Like any other car, this device generates electricity to power all the elements of the car. In this case, the generator performs its function only when the motor is running.

On the VAZ 2107, this mechanism is located directly on the surface of the power unit on its right side. This position is due to the fact that the generator is started by moving the crankshaft through the V-belt.

How to replace a generator with a VAZ 2107

Replacing the generating set is required in cases where the device no longer generates the required amount of current for the consumer systems. The most common reasons for replacing the unit are the following malfunctions and breakdowns:

  • burnt out winding;
  • turn-to-turn short circuit;
  • deformation of the generator case;
  • resource development.

It is almost always easier and more profitable to replace a generator with a new one than to repair it.

Preparation of the instrument

For dismantling and subsequent installation of a generator on a VAZ 2107, you will need a standard set of tools, which are usually found in the garage of every driver:

  • a wrench on 10;
  • a wrench on 17;
  • a wrench on 19;
  • a pry bar or a special paddle for assembly work.

No other fixtures or devices are required.

Dismantling work

It is recommended to remove the generator from the "seven" after the motor has cooled down. Immediately after driving, it is not recommended to work with car units due to high temperatures and the risk of injury.

Immediately before removing the generator, you will need to dismantle the right front wheel, since you can get to the installation only from under the bottom of the car through the right fender.

It is imperative to securely fix the position of the car with a jack and auxiliary devices (hemp, stands) in order to exclude the risk of the car falling during operation.

The progress of work is reduced to the sequential execution of the following actions:

  1. Find the generator body in the mechanical device of the car, feel the bar for fixing it to the motor.
  2. Unscrew the fastening nut halfway with a wrench.
  3. Unscrew the nut on the bracket, but do not remove it from the stud.
  4. Pull the generator body and move it in any direction - this will become possible due to the loose fastening.
  5. Remove the belt from the landing pulleys, remove it from the work area.
  6. Disconnect all incoming wires to the generator case.
  7. Unscrew the fastening nuts completely.
  8. Pull the generator towards you and remove it from under the body.

Immediately after dismantling work, inspect the seat of the generator. All joints and fasteners must be cleaned of dirt and, if necessary, treated with acetone.

Accordingly, the installation of a new generator will need to be carried out in the reverse order, while paying special attention to the tension of the new belt.

"Seven" left the assembly line of the Volga Automobile Plant in the period from 1982 to 2012. Initially, the model was equipped with a drive belt of an outdated sample at the moment, which has a smooth surface without any roughness. However, later VAZ 2107 began to be re-equipped to meet the requirements of the time, which led to the appearance of a new type of belts with teeth.

How to properly tension the belt on the generator

When installing a generator on a VAZ 2107 on your own, the most difficult moment is precisely the correct tension of the belt. After all, it is through the belt that the starting of the generator mechanism will pass, therefore, any errors and miscalculations when tensioning the rubber product will affect the performance of the car.

The belt is tensioned as follows:

  1. Put the new generator in its original place, putting it on the studs.
  2. Tighten the fixing nuts only halfway, without pinching them.
  3. Install with a pry bar in the gap formed between the generator wall and the pump. Lock the mount in this position.
  4. Put a new belt on the alternator pulley.
  5. While holding the pry bar, start tensioning the belt.
  6. Install the fixing nut at the top of the generator set housing mount.
  7. After that, carry out a preliminary diagnosis of the degree of tension - the rubber product should not sag much downward.
  8. Tighten the nut of the lower stud to the end, do not pinch it.

Next, the quality of the belt tension is checked. With two fingers, it is necessary to press firmly on the free part of the belt and measure the existing deflection. Normal sagging should not exceed 1.5 centimeters.

The service life of a typical belt for a VAZ 2107 generator is usually 80 thousand kilometers. However, it is recommended to change the belt drive earlier if the generator set is being replaced.
