Department: New technologies - Everything is under control

Department: New technologies - Everything is under control Patronage: Delphi. For some time - or you can return to the fuel crisis - the interest of designers was focused on precision technologies. From a car of the same dimensions, running on the same amount of fuel, you can expect more if you improve its performance. A key factor in the development of automotive technology is increased control over the operation of vehicle components. Delphi Automotive is taking this approach forward with the introduction of a new direct fuel injection system for medium and heavy vehicles.

Department: New technologies - Everything is under controlDelphi has introduced a new family of modular common rail diesel engines for medium-sized vehicles and a new high-pressure direct injection system for natural gas diesel engines (HPDI) to improve fuel efficiency. This system will be developed for commercial vehicles in the Heavy Duty segment. Common Rail provides precise control of high pressure fuel injection. Used solenoid injectors Department: New technologies - Everything is under controlfrom Delphi, they offer very high “resolution” – they are able to achieve extremely short injection times. The result is reduced noise and emissions, and improved fuel efficiency. The system, which functions in this way, will be installed on medium-sized commercial vehicles as early as 2015.

“This system is designed to enable vehicle and engine manufacturers to deliver the outstanding fuel economy, low noise, reliability and durability demanded by mid-size commercial vehicle manufacturers around the world (…). Our modular approach ensures that we can offer the benefits of using these systems across a wide range of makes and models with varying performance without compromising any aspect of engine performance.” This is Steve Gregory, managing director of Delphi Diesel Systems. For the heavy duty segment, a high-pressure direct injection system was developed to feed diesel engines with natural gas (HPDI). At the recent IAA, Delphi announced the debut of its second generation of HDPI injectors. This system, developed in partnership with Westport Innovations, will enable truck manufacturers around the world to significantly reduce fuel consumption. These systems are expected to be in production from 2016.
