Disinfection of the air conditioner in the car. This item requires special attention

Disinfection of the air conditioner in the car. This item requires special attention The coming spring reminds drivers of the main activities related to car care. In addition to replacing tires with summer tires, you also need to take care of the air conditioning system.

Krzysztof Wyszynski, Product Manager at Würth Polska, talks about the most effective cleaning method and important elements.

There are several methods for disinfecting air conditioners on the market, incl. application of chemical sprays, ozonation or ultrasonic cleaning. Their biggest disadvantage is that they do not clean the evaporator where deposits accumulate, i.e. do not reach all areas of the air conditioning system that require disinfection.

The task of the evaporator is to cool the air, which is then fed into the interior of the car. The complex design of the device and the moisture generated during operation make it particularly susceptible to the deposition of contaminants. Therefore, cleaning the evaporator is extremely important - neglecting it will result in an unpleasant smell from the supply air when the air conditioner is turned on. Even worse, with a musty smell, we inhale all kinds of bacteria and fungi that are dangerous to our health and even life. So how do you effectively clean an evaporator? Of course, in a professional workshop.

The most effective method for disinfecting an evaporator is the pressure method, which consists in spraying a chemical agent directly onto the fins of the evaporator. Disinfection is carried out using a metal probe connected to a special pneumatic gun, which provides access to the evaporator chamber and applying the chemical under high pressure. The device creates a high pressure, due to which the drug washes away the remaining deposits and reaches all the spaces of the evaporator. If it is not cleaned for several years, green sludge may flow from under the machine. This proves that the development of bacteria and fungi in the nooks and crannies of the evaporator is already in full swing. This is a sign of careless cleaning and disinfection of the air conditioner for a long time. In addition to the evaporator, of course, we must not forget about the ventilation ducts and replacing the cabin filter.

It is also extremely important to choose the right drug, always with biocidal properties. The label of such a disinfectant must contain the number of the registration certificate in Poland issued by the Office for the Registration of Medicines, Medical Devices and Biocides. It is worth asking the workshop to show the label of the chemical preparation that will disinfect the air conditioner. If it is a cleaning-only product and there is no license number on the label, it is not a biocide product.

Disinfection of the air conditioning system, carried out in a professional workshop and using appropriate preparations, will allow the driver to drive pleasantly cool on hot days without worrying about his health.
