Ford dealers had to fix faulty transmissions

Despite the company's claims that its Ford Focus is 100% safe, on July 12 the company quietly ordered dealers to begin repairing faulty transmissions.

Ford Focus and Fiesta models have been attacked by thousands of buyers complaining about problems with the PowerShift dual clutch transmission.

Last week, the Detroit Free Press published a scathing report about the company's incompetence in dealing with this problem. According to Frip, the company produced inexpensive cars knowing they had a faulty transmission.

On July 12, the company asked dealers to "arrange vehicle diagnostics and repairs as needed" on all 2011-17 models, even if they are out of warranty.

The previous class action lawsuit already covers 2011-16 models that were built with transmissions known to fail regularly.

The original memo told dealers to repair transmissions free of charge until July 19, despite the company releasing its own statement in which Ford said the Free Press report made "conclusions not based on facts."

Ford CEO Mark Fields has already been called to testify in the ongoing transmission lawsuit.
