Diesel or Gasoline?

Diesel or Gasoline? Should you opt for a more expensive but economical diesel engine, or perhaps a much cheaper gasoline engine that uses more expensive fuel? This question is asked by many people who are trying to buy a car.

Diesel engines are becoming more and more popular, not least because they have undergone a colossal metamorphosis in recent years. They stopped smoking, became quiet, even more economical and are not inferior in power to gasoline engines. All this makes a real "empyema" boom. But is it profitable to invest in a much more expensive diesel engine if there is diesel Diesel or Gasoline? Cheaper than gasoline by just a few cents? Or maybe it will be cheaper to drive a car with a gasoline engine running on more expensive fuel?

Diesel or gas?

Modern diesel engines have great maneuverability, high power, are economical, and therefore provide a large power reserve. However, they also have disadvantages. They are expensive to buy and maintain, very sensitive to fuel quality, and injection system repair costs are very high. The advantages of gasoline engines include a high work culture, low noise level and reasonable maintenance costs. The disadvantage is low torque, hence poor maneuverability and high fuel consumption.

Is it worth buying a diesel at current fuel prices? There is no single answer to this, and in order to choose the optimal solution, you need to think carefully and answer a few questions. The most important of these is how many kilometers we drive each year by car. If we pass less than 40 thousand. km, such a purchase will not be economically beneficial, because. diesel cars are more expensive than petrol cars (with the same configuration) from 5. to 20 10 zł. The more expensive it is to buy diesel, the faster it pays off, the greater the difference in fuel prices and the smaller the difference between the prices of cars with gasoline and diesel engines. Having won 20 or XNUMX thousand a year, km, it is more profitable to buy a car with a gasoline engine.

For example, buying a Toyota Avensis with a diesel engine instead of a gasoline engine will pay off only after 76 2,5. km. These are approximate values as only fuel costs are included in the calculations and other operating costs are not included. Diesel fuel insurance costs will be higher because the cost of the car is higher. In the case of the Fiat Panda and Skoda Octavia, the return on investment in diesel will be 40 years with an annual mileage of 20 km. km. Buying a Honda Civic with a diesel engine is even less profitable, as this car is more expensive than a petrol one by as much as PLN 500.

But who said that we buy diesel just to save money? Some drivers choose it for completely different reasons. High torque makes driving a modern diesel very pleasant, in some cases a car with such an engine is more dynamic than its gasoline counterpart, and often it is the most powerful version available. So some choose diesel just for driving pleasure and not necessarily for economic reasons.
