There are many types of steering knobs or pedal locks on the market. Unfortunately, as experts assure, this type of equipment can scare off an amateur, but certainly will not stop an experienced thief. Steering wheels in modern cars are made of highly flexible materials. Handlebars easily return to their original shape when cut and removed. Between the tales, you can insert stories about how easy it is to “neutralize” the blockade by freezing it, for example, with a fire extinguisher. In order for the metal to collapse on impact, it would have to freeze its entire structure. We can only cool the surface with a fire extinguisher.
Gear locks are much more effective than canes, but not all of them. Locks that have a separate lock and pin are easily neutralized. It is enough to damage the lock with a special master key and the metal pin will come out of the box without any problems.
It is best to choose a lock in which the lock fits into the pin. In this type of equipment, the pin can only be placed in the box in one position - so that the latch that locks it is at the bottom. Thus, even after the lock has been broken, the latch cannot be lifted in any way, and thus the drawer cannot be unlocked. Security development requires several hours of work and professional equipment.
Most modern locks are equipped with an immobilizer. A special sensor is placed next to the spindle, which determines its presence. When the lock is activated, the ignition is automatically turned off. The car cannot be started. When we try to start the car with the transmission locked, a special warning signal will remind us to remove the pin from the lock. Additionally, an alarm or siren can be connected to the device.
A normal gearbox lock costs about PLN 350, equipment with an immobilizer costs about PLN 200 more.
