Good to know : These additional services, however, are not additional services, contrary to what one might think. They are just as necessary, and if you don't follow them, you could lose your manufacturer's warranty.

Among the checks and interventions that are always included and necessary for the overhaul of the self-builder, we can mention:

  • Engine oil change : Always have enough oil (but not too much), good quantity and not too worn out. This is why used oil is systematically pumped out.
  • Oil filter change : It must remain in perfect condition to avoid leakage or clogging that can cause engine problems.
  • Service Log Checks : Sometimes it is recommended that you check many points in your maintenance booklet, which will be checked so that none of them are missed.
  • Leveling fluids : From the transmission to the windshield washer and coolant, they are all important and will be upgraded during the overhaul.
  • Resetting the service indicator after service has been performed : This allows you to accurately anticipate the next car service.
  • diagnostic electronic : effective for determining the origin of certain technical anomalies. This includes, inter alia, interpreting the indicators on the dashboard, reading the fault codes of your computers, etc.

This is already a good set of services that are included in any manufacturer overhaul. Nothing like that to give your car a new lease on life! Other services are added as the age and mileage of the car increases, but also in accordance with the service log provided by the car manufacturer.

Additional services recommended for each vehicle service book evolve. Take, for example, the maintenance booklet for the widely sold Renault Clio dCi in France.

At most every 2 years, the review includes the above-mentioned basic services, as well as a number of other additional services:

  • Le cabin filter replacement ;
  • Replacement and bleeding brake fluid ;
  • La timing belt overhaul during the 10 year review;
  • Every 60 km or so, a major overhaul also includes replacing the drain plug seal, oil filter, air filter, diesel or fuel filter, and spark plugs.

La manufacturer's warranty optional, but negotiable. It protects your car for 2-7 years, but the manufacturer can void it if you do not provide services in the right place.

Good news: repairing your vehicle with the manufacturer is no longer a requirement! Community Regulation (EC) No 1400/2002 of the Commission of 31 July 2002 amended the rules that had previously been applied and which required the revision to be carried out at the manufacturer.

However, please note that in the event of a technical problem, the manufacturer has the right to require you to confirm that the service was carried out in accordance with the recommendations in the service log.

Good to know : we can only advise you to carry out the service in a car center or in a separate garage, prices are 20-50% cheaper than those of your manufacturer!

All information regarding vehicle overhaul can be found in the manufacturer's service log. It allows you to determine at what kilometer the service should be carried out and what checks are necessary in accordance with it.

If, in general, it is recommended to overhaul a car with a gasoline engine every 15 km, for a diesel car it is more likely 20 (in some cases up to 000 km).

Also keep in mind that the age of the vehicle does matter. If the first overhaul of a new car is to be carried out after two years, the next should be at least as regular. Never exceed 2 years between each overhaul of your vehicle!

Note : First of all, trust your service book first, because this document will be the most accurate with regard to the ideal moment to overhaul your car! The manufacturer will also refer to this in the event of a problem.

When it comes time to have your vehicle professionally serviced, you can compare prices online. Car service will usually cost you between 125 and 180 euros according to your car model and according to the instructions in your service book.

These prices can also differ depending on the specialist you are talking to. In a separate garage or auto center (for example, Feu Vert, Midas, Speedy, etc.) Service will always be cheaper than in a car dealership.

Depending on age, mileage and service book, additional services are added to the basic services of a car service. Do not take rework lightly: you must complete all the services required for each revision!
