DRE Enduro Off-Road Driving School - Road Test

"Enduro DRE is a basic school born with the goal of teaching the basics of off-road"... These are the first words that Beppe Gualini greeted us at a briefing prior to our busy schedule new driving school what the Borgo Panigale brand has organized for all owners of the new Ducati Multistrada Enduro, and not only.

“We do not prepare you for racing, we teach you the technique and the basics to be able to drive off-road and then be able to progress by grinding kilometers.”concluded Gualini, technical director of the circuit, African rally-raid record holder with 65 participants and a driver who contested 10 stages of the Paris-Dakar race.

To learn how to use a bike

A new course expanding the already known program Ducati Riding Experiencewill please everyone who drives road enduro (or they are going to buy it) and want to use "the full" potential of their bike by learning how to remove wheels even from asphalt.

In fact, many people buy road enduros and only use them on the road. After all, there are many owners of 4x4 SUVs who simply drive around the city or on the highway. But we will talk about this, maybe another time.

Castle of Nipozzano

Il DRE enduro takes place near the impressive castle of Nipozzano, lasts a day and a half and has cost 680 euros; including lunches, dinners, medical assistance, a guided tour of the basements of the Nipozzano castle, a certificate of participation and a welcome package. This includes a little theory, very important and a lot, many practices.

course

We study the position in the saddle - so to speak, off-road, he always stands -, the distribution of weight on climbs and descents and, above all, the technique of overcoming turns, obstacles and the most difficult routes. Where the main concern of all newcomers is the same: how do I not lose the front or emerge unscathed from a situation that (at first) may seem difficult to overcome (impassable terrain or an insurmountable obstacle)?

All questions are answered by the technical staff, who are always ready to give the correct instructions and follow the progress of each participant step by step. Later, with practice, you will find yourself capable of doing unthinkable things. Seeing is believing.

Ducati Multistrada Enduro Bosch VHC

As anticipated at the beginning, Dre Enduro takes place aboard the new one. Ducati Multistrada Endurowhich is not a Multistrada with 19-inch wheels and knobby tires: this is a completely different bike. It has new geometry for the saddle, footrests and handlebars. It has a special off-road suspension, spoked wheels (with 19-inch front) with enduro tubeless tires, a double-sided swingarm and a larger tank.

Does not change Testastretta DVT two-cylinder 160 hp engine, but the electronics are adapted for off-roading, which reduces the power to 100 hp. The suspensions and ABS also benefit from off-road tuning, with the same softening and Bosch system disabling rear wheel steering and wheel stabilization.

Another gem is Vehicle Hold Control (VHC), a system also manufactured by Bosch which helps the driver to start off hills, which are even more difficult off-road. How it works? The system keeps the bike stationary by activating the rear brake for 9 seconds, allowing the rider to restart with only gas and traction, without having to deal with dangerous bike backups.

My advice

Enduro DRE is made for those who want to learn how to ride off-road, but personally I would recommend it to all motorcyclists, even those who have nothing to do with bumps: because I am learning to handle my bike in difficult conditions. the grip will inevitably improve their driving skills. And driving off-road and on the highway will also benefit.
