We drove the DS4 in a top-end version with a 180 hp diesel engine, automatic transmission and Sport & Chic tuning.

The DS4 with this restyling diverges even further from the "Citroën origins", confirming its identity as a compact premium class with typical French luxury. At 428 cm long, 181 wide and 153 high, the DS4 is a compact sedan with coupe elements and a hint of MPV. The seat is high, but the profile line narrows; therefore, the space for rear passengers is not as large as expected. city
La DS4 It definitely lacks the maneuverability of a city car: it is one of the largest sedans in its segment (length 428 cm, width 181 cm and height 153), and the tapering line severely limits rear visibility, which is a problem that is partially solved by the rear view camera and parking sensors.
Also steering requires some effort at low speeds, which does not help to get out of the traffic jam. There visibility The front end, on the other hand, is very nice, aided by the tall seat and large window. I'm comfortable too points: soft and enveloping. Automatic transmission EAT6 sufficiently fast gear shifting both in automatic and manual modes; however, it lacks sweetness in its clutch attack. The 2.0 BlueHDI engine is very resilient and pushes hard at low revs (maximum power is 3.750 rpm), a performance that is highly regarded in road traffic.
Outside the city
La new DS4 it works best outside the city: not so much on roads full of curves, but on medium-long trips with many straight sections. In these situations DS4 he drives kilometers with ease and complete relaxation, thanks in part to the comfortable seats (heated and massaged in our test car) and the excellent soundproofing of the interior. The steering is quite ready and communicative, albeit not very progressive, and the four-spoke steering wheel is too big. On the other hand, the setup is particularly successful: it provides excellent control over the car and leaves very little room for riding, but at the same time it is soft on holes and bumps.
The car in our test is equipped with i 19 inch wheels, clearly extreme, even if beautiful in appearance: it is better to choose 18 ”. Nature DS4In any case, he has no special sporting ambitions: the car is stable, and the rear part does not willingly participate in shortening the trajectory, and the high center of gravity and the seat throw the driver into a happy ride. Engine BlueHDI on the other hand, with 180 hp. and 400 Nm of torque, it pulls like a train, but quickly out of breath. La DS4 on the motorways, it does not disappoint the expectations of a luxury compact car:soundproofing it is in good condition and engine hiss and noise is minimal. Our version is also equipped with heated seats with massage – an expensive option (between 1900 euros and 4.300 euros depending on the type of seat and leather) but definitely appreciated on premium cars. Cruise control and speed limiter are of course standard.
Life on board
In the world of German rationality, interiors DS4 stand out for design and ingenuity. French taste is everywhere, with very chic and glamorous details on the dashboard, both in the choice of materials and in the color combinations. The leather with visible stitching is very beautiful, as is the texture of the strap on the seats.
La measuring instruments of DS4 it is original (you can also change the blue tint of the speedometer and tachometer), but sometimes it is not very legible and the higher will make it difficult to see from the top of the steering wheel. The seat is raised so much that it looks like you are driving a (low) minivan; this provides good visibility, but it is difficult to find the “correct” driving position, also due to the rather horizontal steering wheel.
There is enough space for passengers for a long journey, but there are those who are better.
Price and costs
La DS4 BlueHDi 180 Sport Chic with automatic transmission EAT6 has price price list 32.450 euros, but with small additions, it reaches almost 40.000. It's not cheap, of course, but the price is partly justified by the high level of finish and rich customization.
Good consumption: DS4 in the combined cycle, he drove about 18 km / l, which is more than fair given the power and not quite light weight of the car.
