Courtesy of Volkswagen Poland, I am currently testing VW ID.4. At the time of this writing, I have had a car for two days. I managed to meet with our reader, Mr. Daniel, to find out his opinion about the car. I think he liked it, but I ... Tesla Model 3 turned away a little.

I went Volkswagen ID.4 1st Pro Performanceс battery capacity 77 (82) kWh, rear-wheel drive (150 kW / 204 hp) and probably everything that this model can be equipped with. Price? 243 990 PLN, but there was no information on the purchase price for 21-inch Narvik wheels in the list, so I assume that the final amount to be paid is between 244 and 250 thousand zlotys. In addition to these wheels, it was almost exactly the car that we recently recognized as the ideal choice for the editorial staff of www.elektrowoz.pl.

As for these rims, damn it!, Absolutely everyone who was interested in the car paid attention to them (21 inches, Narvik model). They said “Wow, big!” or “Damn, nice!” to make the neighbor jealous too. This worries me a little, because it is known that on smaller, 20-inch wheels, the range will be a little more - and make a decision now. Generally: ID.4 attracted attention... He was watched, spied, watched on the street. Skoda Enyaq iV did not generate such interest.

Mr. Daniel, the current owner of the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus, also praised it positively. He praised the paintwork, which is still blue even in gray light (and his Tesla looks black from a distance). And a high driving position. And access to the trunk, because in the Model 3 sedan, it is so-so. He liked the decoration and the chairs, they were like wheels: whoever sat inside, immediately said that they were very comfortable.

Weaker ID.4 performance (8,5 seconds to 100 km / h)? They didn't bother him at all, because, as he says, “it still drives cold,” that is, with artificially limited torque and weaker acceleration than the Tesla Model 3. However, I lacked a little power.

Did he not like something? Yes, recuperation. There is no single pedal driving in any of the modes, the car slows down to 5 km / h and then rolls, so you need to remember to brake. In a Tesla or Leaf, as well as in a BMW i3, Ioniqu 5, Kii EV6, driving with only one accelerator pedal is/will be standard, so you might be disappointed in the Volkswagen ID.4. I understand the idea: it should have been clear to people transitioning from internal combustion vehicles - and it is. I liked the intelligence of this solution, which controls the recuperation power as you approach roundabouts, curbs, built-up areas and other vehicles. But I also wouldn't get angry at driving just by touching the accelerator pedal.

Maybe this option will be released in the update. Maybe not.

In any case, the VW ID.4 is interesting in design, pleasant and comfortable to drive, maneuverable in the city and… only at this price. Almost PLN 250 is already the Tesla Model 3 LR zone. Anyway, check out what another reader, Tesla Model 3 owner Mr. Creatures, wrote:

I had ID.4 all weekend. And on Saturday, after the first kilometers, I said to myself: this is not at all the same as in TM3, but not bad, it takes a few kilometers to get used to it, then I will judge. On Sunday, after driving another kilometer, I thought, “You might like this car. It's convenient, it's cool. "

But on Monday I returned to my TM3, and all positive impressions from ID4 collapsed. But seriously, the only thing I remember is the brilliant turning radius. That's all. I can't say anything more positive today, and I know it sounds like science fiction, but damn it... For the same money, you introduce Tesla into a completely different area of ​​​​the automotive world.

Bottom line: ID.4 yes, if you've never driven a Tesla before. And only then 🙂

Fun fact: TM3 is longer than ID.4 and has a larger internal width! Visually from the outside, when I looked at ID.4 in the living room, I would not say this in my life, because the high ID.4 seems gigantic. And here's a surprise.

This is a very good summary. I think this perfectly reflects how someone who usually drives a Tesla Model 3 and has switched to ID.4 feels. But to make it funnier, I (the undersigned) felt the opposite. When I got into Mr. Daniel's Model 3, the acceleration was great, the ID.4 is not working. But this and that hurt me:

  • it was too low because I prefer to sit higher, see more, so as not to shrink, to get in (oh, that old spine and these muscles on my stomach;),
  • it was without a HUD, and when a person walks with it, it is really difficult for him to get used to it (especially since the counters in ID.4 are not very good).

This experience made my thoughts started to run away from Model 3 to Model Y... And an additional giant confusion in my head was caused by the announced prices for the Kia EV6. If we, as the editorial office, had a budget of up to 220 PLN, dilemmas would kill us 🙂 And this Nissan Ariya, which makes a really good impression up close ...

To summarize: Volkswagen is not going to be easy. We expect discounts or large advertising campaigns. Really tough competition for the buyer, which will also affect the prices of the VW ID. and other small electricians. If you can wait, wait. Wait for tests, wait for reviews, wait for premieres 🙂

If you can't, remember this today you can buy an electric car that can be the only car in the family... The Volkswagen ID.4 1st Pro Performance I drove is exactly like that.
