Think the LC300 is soft but can't afford a used LandCruiser 200? New Ineos Grenadier targets people 'left behind' by high-tech SUVs

Ineos Grenadier wants to lure you out of your LC200.

Ineos will target customers "left behind" by vehicles such as the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, the new Land Rover Defender, or the Nissan Patrol with its new Grenadier, promising its new SUV will be a base option that can be fixed fly.

Speaking at an information session on the new Grenadier, said the head of the company in the Asia-Pacific region, Justin Hocevar. Cars Guide that the brand will not be a direct competitor to new and tech-savvy SUVs, but instead will target customers sitting in old XNUMXxXNUMX vehicles they know and trust.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there are people sitting in their six, seven or even ten year old cars, because they really struggled to find something to move to and sit there thinking that their abandoned. behind — and we hear it from customers,” says Mr. Hosevar. "We think this is an opportunity."

Ineos is also using the skyrocketing prices of used vehicles such as the LandCruiser 200 Series as additional validation for the launch of the Grenadier in Australia, saying their residual value is proof of a market for durable, serious 4WD.

Earlier this year, prices for used LC200s, especially new or near-new units, jumped more than 50% from suggested retail prices.

“I think the reasonable point is the residual value of the vehicles (these people) they are sitting on. They are very well preserved because people still want them,” says Mr. Hosevar.

“So I think we can come in and offer them a solution, but it won't be an easy win. We still have to show them that we are a reliable brand they can trust."

The Ineos Grenadier will have a starting price of around $84,500 when it goes on sale in the fourth quarter of next year, beating both the brand new LandCruiser 4 Series (which starts at $300 for the GX) and the used LandCruiser 89,900 Series, which usually worth six-figure amounts on the secondary market.

The ladder-frame SUV is made in Wales and will be powered by a BMW 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine (around 212kW and 450Nm) or a diesel engine (around 185kW and 550Nm) mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. and interestingly, there is no price difference between petrol and diesel donks.

It also features permanent all-wheel drive and three locking differentials and has been designed to be as "analog" as possible, with an easy-to-clean interior with rubber flooring, drain plugs, reduced ECUs and a physical key. However, you'll find a 4-inch center touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
