Engine 1.5 TSI 150 hp - What is this drive? How does the new 1.5 TSI petrol engine work? What cars can you find?

The model with a 1.5 TSI engine was originally installed on the Volkswagen Passat and Golf 7. The most commonly installed unit has a power of up to 150 hp. There are many opinions about how the 1.5 TSI engine works. Most users value torque, low fuel consumption and driving dynamics. VW installs a new 1.5 TSI engine in its cars. It is a proven design with no manufacturing defects. Despite some shortcomings, it is worth choosing a 1.5 TSI 150 hp engine. Thanks to this, driving pleasure will be guaranteed! Read more.

The new 1.5 TSI engine - on which cars is it installed?

New engines 1.5 TSI EVO and 1.5 TSI 150 hp installed on vehicles such as:

  • Volkswagen Golf, Passat;
  • Skoda Octavia;
  • Volkswagen T-Rock;
  • Skoda Superb;
  • Pity Karok.

As you can see, many car models can boast of having a 1.5 TSI engine with 150 hp on board. It is a good alternative to 1.0 TSI engines, which allows to increase dynamics and reduce fuel consumption.

1.5 TSI engine - design

The 1.5 TSI engine is not a new design, but just another version of the already known 1.4 engines. This is a four-cylinder turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection. The motor is completely made of aluminum and durable components. In this case, the cylinder diameter is 74,5 mm, and the piston stroke itself is 85,9 mm. The 1.5 TSI engine generates an injection pressure of 350 bar during operation. This gasoline engine develops a maximum torque of 1300 rpm.

The most important drive features

In addition to the above, the 1.5 TSI engine has a variable geometry turbocharger and an ACT cylinder deactivation system. This is a proven system that engineers have already used in the previous 1.4 model. At light load, the valves on two cylinders are closed and the engine runs only on the remaining cylinders. Thanks to this, the 1.5 TSI unit is considered economical. The timing belt is driven by a belt, so replacing it is not too expensive. Four-cylinder 1.5 TSI engine with 150 hp also has a particulate filter according to Euro6 standards. As a standard, the engine runs on 0w20 oil, replacement is recommended at least every 15 km.

Remember that with the 1.5 TSI engine, the so-called. sailing system. This feature helps reduce fuel consumption as the 1.5 TSI engine is completely disabled when driving at a constant speed and without acceleration.

1.5 TSI engine - power and torque

Want to know how much power the 1.5 TSI engine develops? At the same time, the engineers decided to produce two versions with different capacities. The first model with a 1.5 TSI engine develops 130 hp. at 4750 rpm. The drive develops up to 200 Nm.

When choosing this engine, remember that it works on the Miller cycle. This will reduce compression loss. The compression ratio of the 1.5 TSI unit in this case is 12.5:1. A real pleasure is the use of VTG turbine blades with variable geometry. So far, designs of this type have only been found in diesel engines. Implementing it in a gasoline engine has improved drive flexibility and response time to gas addition even from the lowest revs.

The second version is a 1.5 TSI engine with 150 hp.

The torque for this version of the engine is 250 Nm, and the maximum power is reached at 5000 rpm. Despite the high engine rotation power, the unit used in the design, for example, the VW Golf, is somewhat weaker. All thanks to the use of Otto's work cycle instead of Miller's. 150 hp version equipped with APS cylinders. Solid aluminum block treated with a special powder. Remember that this version of the engine is adapted for hybrid operation. 150 hp version also does not have a variable geometry turbocharger.

1.5 TSI engine - advantages and disadvantages of this unit

Combustion is by far the best feature of the 150 TSI 1.5 HP engines. Compared to its 1.4 TSI predecessor, the 1.5 TSI engine delivers 150 hp. consumes less fuel and provides much better driving dynamics. The big advantage of this design is also the construction of the work. The combination of this unit with a DSG gearbox is an excellent configuration. Thanks to this, the car drives confidently and without unnecessary problems.

You already know what features the 1.5 TSI engine has. The general consensus is that 1.5 TSI engines are considered trouble-free compared to 2.0 TSI. At the same time, there are no serious malfunctions, except for jerks in first gear, i.e., the so-called. kangaroo. You can easily fix this problem by updating the gearbox software at ASO. The successor to the 1.4 TSI unit is capable of driving hundreds of thousands of kilometers without breakdowns. The new unit, also used by the VW concern, is increasingly being chosen by many car users.
