2.0 DCI engine in Renault and Nissan - when did it enter the market? What characterizes the M9R 150HP unit?

Renault, which produces Laguna, Espace IV and many others, decided to install a 2.0 DCI unit. The 2.0 DCI engine is able to easily handle up to 200 km of driving. km. Designs introduced into production in 2005 are marked with the M9P symbol. The main advantage of this type of actuator is the Common Rail system with Bosch piezoelectric injectors. Thanks to this, the fuel dosage becomes more accurate, which means that the operating costs of the car are reduced. Many users of vehicles with a 2.0 hp 150 DCI engine do not know that the engineers used a timing chain. This means that Renault and Nissan engines are completely maintenance-free. So he has only pluses? Look at yourself!

2.0 DCI engine with 150 hp - what makes him stand out? What is its specification?

2.0 DCI engine with 150 hp has a timing chain drive and a turbocharger with variable blade geometry. In addition, this power unit uses an electronic EGR valve. Fortunately, only a DPF was optionally installed. Before you buy a Renault Laguna, Trafic or Renault Megane, be sure to check what equipment the selected power unit has. Foreign versions of cars with a 2.0 DCI engine have been available in the DPF version only since 2008, and in our country since 2010.

Unit operation and possible problems

The manufacturer guarantees that the DPF filter does not require maintenance, and its correct operation leads to self-cleaning every few hundred kilometers. 150 hp engine requires regular replacement of low-ash oil. Thanks to this, you will avoid replacing the filter with a new one, the cost of which fluctuates around 130 euros.

Over the years, 2.0 DCI engine models were produced, which after 200 thousand km undergo many breakdowns. The most expensive block 2.0 DCI issues include:

  • failure of the dual-mass flywheel;
  • failure of the turbocharger;
  • injection problems.

These are the three most serious problems in Renault and Nissan models. A dual-mass flywheel can already cost four figures.

Which brand of motors deserve attention, and which ones should be avoided?

The 2.0 DCI M9R engine is praised for its high work culture and trouble-free gearbox. It is a worthy successor to the 1.9 DCI engine. It had a very bad reputation for the second series Laguna II and Megane models. The modern 2.0 DCI diesel engine is often found in the Renault Espace and some other vehicles. Four efficient cylinders with a 16-valve head, combined with a turbocharger, provide excellent performance. The liquid cooling system and the two camshafts complement each other perfectly. The Laguna III, equipped with this powertrain, has excellent performance, which is appreciated by many vehicle users.

The most common 2.0 DCI engine malfunctions - what is worth knowing?

Compared to 1.9 DCI, it is clear that the engineers have tried to fix the most common faults. The 2.0 DCI unit has a really satisfactory fuel consumption. Despite this, there are still some malfunctions that significantly interfere with the daily use of the car. One of the common faults is a clogged DPF system. In this case, as a user of a car with a 2.0 DCI engine, expect a cost of 100 euros in ASO. This is only the cost of cleaning the DPF, because buying a new one entails expenses of up to PLN 4. zloty.

A stuck EGR valve is also a common problem with these diesel engines. The 2.0 DCI engine has a common problem with the EGR due to exhaust gases coming out of the engine clogging it. Most often, the problem is solved by complex cleaning of the valve.

What are the benefits of a 2.0 DCI engine?

The injection system of the 2.0 DCI engine deserves special praise. Why? The French unit, unlike others, works efficiently, even if the mileage exceeds 250-7 km. km. It is enough that you use high quality fuel. This will keep the injection unit working for a long time. Users of Renault and Nissan vehicles also appreciate the driving dynamics and low diesel consumption. In this case, the average fuel consumption is about 100 l / 5 km. When driving off-road, you will easily bring the fuel consumption below 100L/XNUMXkm.

The 2.0 DCI engine is a good choice. When buying a used model, be sure to carefully check how it is used and the degree of wear of the components.
