2TZ-FZE engine
The 2TZ-FZE engine is a gasoline power unit with four horizontally arranged cylinders. The sixteen-valve gas distribution mechanism is assembled according to the DOHC scheme, with two camshafts. Timing drive - chain, which somewhat increased the reliability of the design. The basis for the creation was the younger brother and the ancestor of the series - the 2TZ-FE motor. With an almost identical design, the 2TZ-FZE has a mechanical supercharger, which has significantly increased power and torque compared to the original.
Advantages, disadvantages and specifications
Low and wide, the Toyota 2TZ-FZE engine is ideal for installation under the car floor. By maximally aligning the center of gravity and the geometric center of the vehicle, the designers have achieved increased stability and good cornering control.
Disadvantages, as usual, stem from the only advantage of this engine. The horizontal arrangement of the cylinder block significantly complicated the design of attachments, in particular, lubrication and engine cooling systems. The tendency to overheat and sensitivity to oil quality have become the hallmark of 2TZ-FZE. The location of the engine under the floor of the car made it difficult to access the main components and assemblies, the banal replacement of candles was carried out exclusively at a service station. When the timing drive is broken, the intake and exhaust valves are seriously damaged.

Application area
The TZ family was developed for use in Toyota Previa minivans (or Estima, as this car was called in Japan). After fruitless attempts to refine the engine, Toyota abandoned the use of 2TZ-FZE. The second generation of cars was equipped with a 1CD-FTV diesel engine and 2AZ-FE, 1MZ-FE gasoline engines. At the moment, contract 2TZ-FZEs are widely available for owners of the first generation Toyota Previa (Estima).
