The 2.4-liter 16-valve Chrysler EDZ engine was produced in Mexico from 1995 to 2010 and was installed on many popular models of the company, such as Cirrus, Sebring, Stratus, PT Cruiser. In our market, such a unit became famous thanks to its installation on Volga 31105 and Siber.

In 1995, a 2.4-liter engine appeared in the Dodge and Plymouth compact car engine line. By design, this is the most common gasoline engine with distributed fuel injection, a thin-walled cast iron block, an aluminum 16-valve head with hydraulic compensators, a timing belt drive and a dual-coil ignition system that was current at that time. A feature of this power unit was the presence of a block of balance shafts in the pan.

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the EDZ engine
This motor absolutely does not tolerate overheating, and its thermostat regularly flows through the body. So replacing the gasket with grinding the mating surfaces is not a rare procedure.
Another common problem is burnout of one or more exhaust valves. The cause is usually oil soot on the plate or worn guide bushing.
Quite a lot of trouble in this power unit is caused by an electrician: the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors fail, and the lubricant pressure sensor often flows.
Also, the network constantly complains about malfunctions in the operation of the gasoline vapor recovery system, and also about the modest resource of the internal combustion engine supports, high-voltage wires and the chain of the balancer unit.
