Honda D14 engine
Content
Honda D14 engines belong to the D series, which combines engines manufactured in 1984-2005. This series was installed on such popular cars, including the Honda Civic. Engine displacement ranges from 1,2 to 1,7 liters. The units are equipped with VTEC, DOCH, SOHC system.
D-series engines have been produced for 21 years, which clearly indicates the reliability of the unit. At the same time, they managed to successfully compete with internal combustion engines from other popular manufacturers. There are many modifications of the D14 engine, produced from 1987 to 2005.
All versions of the Honda D14 have a total volume of 1,4 liters. Power ranges from 75 to 90 horsepower. The gas distribution system is 4 valves per cylinder and 1 overhead camshaft. Almost all modifications are equipped with a VTEC system.

The question of reliability and maintainability
Any D-series engine is particularly durable. It can cover a considerable number of kilometers in conditions of oil starvation. Wear resistance is noted even with a lack of fluid in the cooling system. Vehicles with a similar power unit can get to the service center on their own without any oil in the engine, terribly rumbling along the way.

Reviews of car owners and service
If we take the 2000 Honda Civic as an example, we can conclude that this car is equipped with a good engine. The owners note the high speed, power, sharpness and dynamism of the internal combustion engine. The motor starts to "voice" at 4000 rpm. Practically does not consume oil. When buying, it is usually recommended to immediately change the oil and oil filter.
The unit noticeably comes to life after 2000 rpm, and after 4000 rpm it literally shoots up to 7000 rpm. Affects the presence of the VTEC system. An automatic transmission adds to the dynamism of acceleration. The automatic transmission is ideally combined with the D14 engine.
Choice of oil
Often, motorists choose synthetic oil with a viscosity of 5w50. Moreover, this liquid can be used both in winter and in summer. Replacement is recommended every 8 thousand kilometers. When buying, candles may be faulty, and the air filter may be clogged. With use, it is necessary to change the timing belt, roller and two oil seals in a timely manner. Spare parts are quite expensive, but valve bending is otherwise inevitable.
