Description devices motor G6DB 3.3 liters
In 2004, the 3.3-liter V6 unit of the Lambda I series debuted on the fifth generation of the Sonata. This is a typical V-engine with an aluminum block and a 60° camber angle, multiport fuel injection, a pair of DOHC cylinder heads without hydraulic lifters, a timing chain and an aluminum intake manifold with two-stage VIS geometry change system. The first generation of internal combustion engines were equipped with CVVT phase shifters only on the intake camshafts.
Engine number G6DB is located at the junction of the internal combustion engine with a box
In 2008, the second generation of V6 or Lambda II engines appeared on the restyled Sonata. These power units were distinguished by the presence of CVVT phase regulators already on all camshafts, as well as a plastic intake manifold with a three-stage geometry change system.

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the G6DB engine
The most famous problem of the motors of this line is the progressive oil burner and the main reason for this is the rather rapid occurrence of the oil scraper rings. Owners of cars with such an internal combustion engine constantly do decarbonization, but this does not help for a long time.
The network describes many cases of jamming of these motors due to the cranking of the liners, and the culprit is usually the oil level that has dropped sharply as a result of the oil burner. But well-maintained engines also wedge, apparently the liners here are simply rather weak.
The timing chain here is not reliable and serves about 100-150 thousand kilometers, and the replacement is very expensive, and especially if you have to change it along with the phase regulators. On motors of the second generation, the chains have become more reliable, but the hydraulic tensioner fails.
Also, quite often there are lubricant leaks from under the plastic valve covers, malfunctions of the throttles, and a breakdown in the intake manifold geometry change system. And do not forget about adjusting the valve clearance, sometimes it is required every 60 km.
The manufacturer declared the resource of the G6DB engine at 200 km, but it also serves up to 000 km.
