And second: in view of the fact that there are practically no electronics on the motors, they are extremely sensitive to any kind of air leaks, either through the intake manifold or through the fuel equipment. It can greatly affect the start and uniformity of the motor. A good half of the engine control actuators (especially turbodiesel) are controlled by pneumatics !!!!

On OM604605606, candles of a greater length are used than on OM601602603, which leads to their strong coking, but they coke only when driving for a long time with faulty glow plugs, that is, when the candle is not working, the diesel fuel does not burn out and the slag sticks around the candle ... and then it will be very difficult to unscrew it ... Therefore, the candle burned out, it must be changed immediately and, if possible, change all the candles at once, so as not to disassemble the intake manifold every time, because if one burns out, others will soon start to fly ... checked, and the machine, you, the mersovods will only say thank you at startup =)

The motor has, even by today's standards, outstanding efficiency .... W8 with such an engine and automatic transmission is easy to put in 8,5-100 liters / 602 km. The motor was assigned to the 124 series, which was installed on 201, XNUMX bodies, but in fact with the engines of the previous generation they only have in common the number of cylinders, their location and the number of valves per cylinder ... Everything else, and most importantly, the principle of mixture formation is DIFFERENT !!!

This engine implements fuel injection in two stages (with the so-called pilot injection), i.e. at the moment of the compression stroke (at the very beginning) the first small part of the fuel charge is injected into the cylinder, and at the end of the compression stroke the second injection (main) ...... THIS is why the engine runs much quieter than the 604/605/606 series, in which the entire portion delivered in one go... This is the main difference from all other diesel engines with mechanical pumps, which has determined a lot of positive aspects: 1. With a low specific power per volume, the motor has a very high torque of 300 Nm (for comparison, in the 606 motor with a power of 177 l/s, torque moment 310 nm). 2. Due to the power system, the principle of which is described above, we have very low fuel consumption!!! Even compared to the 604/605/606 series. 3. Again, due to the power system, the motor can be called completely silent..... After warming up, the noise of the motor can be lost against the background of the sounds emitted by the city... And this is really a fact. The motor runs so quietly that the level of noise emitted can compete with modern engines, and I’m afraid it will wipe the nose of some!!!! 4. Very high reliability of the unit. With proper maintenance, the engine can easily run 500-600 thousand km. This engine came to the 210 Mercedes from a commercial vehicle, namely from a SPRINTER!!! Where, where, but in “commerce” bad units do not take root well. There are legends about 602.982 on the Sprinter, and the reviews are only positive...

For this, look for a good service....

Sensitivity to air leaks into the fuel system was inherited from its predecessors (meaning engines with mechanical injection pumps) With glow plugs, everything is the same as the 604/605/606 series ...
