Mitsubishi 4G52 engine

One of the first in-line engines is the 4G52. In 1972, Mitsubishi Motors introduced the Astron series, or 4G5 engine, to the public.

These units differed from their contemporaries by a number of design features that increase productivity, wear resistance, compactness and ease of repair. 4 cylinders in this mechanism are located on the same line, which allows you to achieve the perfect balance.

The in-line arrangement of cylinders is ideal for economy class cars, which combine both compactness and fairly good power output.

There are several modifications in the Astron engine series that have earned particular popularity among car manufacturers and workshop workers. The 4G52 was released in 1975 and filled the niche of 2cc engines.

Several modifications were produced for the Australian market and for some car models requiring increased power (up from 74 kW (100 hp) to 92 kW (approx. 120 hp))Mitsubishi 4G52 engine

Most of the engines were used in cars of Mitsubishi Motors' own production: the Jeep and L200 series, for Dodge Colt and Dodge Ram 50 cars. Currently, this internal combustion engine is a rarity in the CIS, because there are only a small number of old cars left on the road: the peak of popularity came in the middle 80s - early 90s of the last century.

Repair and maintenance

The production of 4G52 engines ceased in the mid-nineties, and their place was taken by more modern designs, with a large volume, power and weight. However, old cars equipped with a Mitsubishi four-cylinder engine can still be seen today.

The engine performed well both on cars for the city and on budget pickups from Dodge. Moderate engine power and low fuel consumption per kilometer made it a good option for a car of those years. In addition, the repair of this unit is possible using parts from other engines from manufacturers such as Hyundai, Chrysler, KIA.

At the moment, the 4G52 engine and parts for them are in great demand among collectors, owners of old cars, repair shops. Many people take apart their motors and sell them for parts.

The need for original parts in the CIS is quite large. Special demand for:

It is worth noting that mechanics often upgrade starters from other cars to repair original Mitsubishi. The same applies to other parts that are handmade or cheap copies.

Recognition of the original engine number

When repairing or servicing your vehicle, pay attention to the originality of the parts and the serial number of your unit. For Japanese internal combustion engines, this value is easy to find: it is forced out or stamped on the upper engine protection bar on the right side of the car.

The number and code of the motor are always located next to each other, so determining the type and brand of your motor will not be difficult. Exact tables with engine numbers and information about them are available on the Internet

Features

As mentioned above, 4G52 refers to engines with in-line cylinders. Therefore, its repair and maintenance are quite simple: the motor itself is compact and has a moderate weight. Its assembly and disassembly takes place in a short time due to the original design.

The large power output is due to the sequential operation of 4 cylinders. Their location allows you to distribute the load on the engine itself and on the car body as a whole, which reduces any type of vibration both at low and high speeds.

Fuel grade AI-92 and AI-95 is ideal for these units and minimally affects its performance.Mitsubishi 4G52 engine

It is also worth remembering that with long-term use of engines of this type, the time interval between repairs should be reduced - small delays in operation or malfunctions of individual parts are not ruled out.

With a mileage of more than 150,000 km, it is worth switching to the appropriate type of oil, which will eliminate the erasure of working parts and allow the motor to work the rest of its life without major repairs.
