Nissan KA20DE engine

The KA20DE gasoline engine with a twin-shaft cylinder head appeared in 1991 as a replacement for the 2,0-liter Z20 (OHC NA20S in the second generation Nissan Atlas). A chain is used in the drive of its gas distribution mechanism (timing) (a chain mechanism, which is distinguished by wear resistance, silent operation, resistance to sudden changes in temperature, is undoubtedly more reliable than rubber toothed belts).

Its replacement is a rare occurrence, occurring mainly after a run of more than 300 thousand km (it is recommended to do a preventive examination after 100 thousand km). Significant wear manifests itself in the form of:

  • high noise,
  • tensioner rod outlet
  • valve timing shift due to chain jumping by 1 - 2 teeth (set by computer diagnostics).

The replacement of the chain should be carried out in compliance with the exact match of the timing marks (installation with the marks on the chain links offset relative to the marks on the gears of the crankshaft and camshafts can cause failure of the car engine).Nissan KA20DE engine

Marking

The designation KA20DE stands for:

KA - Engine series (from the in-line 4-cylinder section),

20 - Volume (2,0 liters),

D - Engine with two overhead camshafts (DOCH),

E - Electronic fuel injection.

The Nissan KA series is represented by the KA20DE, KA24E and KA24DE units. On the positive side, it is characterized by simplicity, reliability, durability, on the negative side - a relatively high fuel consumption (for KA20DE, 100 - 12 liters of gasoline are burned per 15 km in city mode, 8 - 9 liters in highway mode, in mixed (10/15) - 10,5 l) and the complexity of repair and maintenance (especially in comparison with Toyota), which is associated with a rather dense "packing" of nodes under the hood.

The motor resource speaks of the high reliability and durability of the engine - it was not possible to find factory data, in practice, for example, for the Nissan Caravan, it turns out more than 300 thousand kilometers (subject to tuning that removes about 200 hp from the wheels - installing an intake manifold, throttle dampers, camshafts with springs, cylinder head porting, lightweight forged pistons for a higher (~ 11) compression ratio and connecting rods, injectors ... - it turns out more than 350 thousand km).Nissan KA20DE engine

The engine rating according to drive2.ru is 4+.

Vehicles with KA20DE engine

The internal combustion engine (ICE) KA20DE was installed on the following Nissan models (the number is punched from the side of the exhaust manifold at the junction of the engine and gearbox):

  • Atlas 10 2000 Super Low GE-SH4F23 (1999-2002), TC-SH4F23 (2003-2005), H2F23 (1999-2003);
  • Caravan GE-VPE25 (2001), LC-VPE25 (2005);
  • Datsun GC-PD22 (1999 - 2001);

as well as on Isuzu COMO GE-JVPE25-S48D 2001 - 2003, Isuzu ELF ASH2F23, Isuzu Fargo JVPE24.

Nissan KA20DE engineAll listed cars are characterized by an ultra-low content of harmful substances in exhaust gases - the engine is equipped with an LEV system (E-LEV index - emissions are 50% cleaner than 2000, 2005 standards). The unit runs on a mixture of air and gasoline with a ratio of 40:1.

The volume of curled oil is 4,1 liters. Replacement is recommended after 7 - 500 km (consumption is approximately 15 g per 000 km). The engine is very sensitive to quality - you should choose the original from the "for gasoline" series with a viscosity of 500W-1000, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30.

Should the KA20DE fail, you can upgrade to the 2.0-liter NP300 with 114 hp, produced from 2008 to the present day.
