The Nissan TD series engines are a series of overhead valve diesel powertrains. Except for one TD42 engine, all other power units are four-cylinder.
The volume of these engines is in the range between 2,7 and 4,2 liters and power between 76 and 161 horsepower.
Specifically, the td27eti power unit discussed in this article appeared in 1995 and was the pinnacle of the evolution of 2,7 liter turbodiesels. The main difference between this engine and its counterparts of the same volume is the presence of an electronically controlled intercller.

As for reliability, this motor, like most of its counterparts, originally from the 90s, is exceptionally reliable. Half a million kilometers such motors go without problems.
Maintainability
The maintainability of these power units is also very high. Drivers' hands, which, as they say, grow from the right place, are very fond of these power units and do all the work with them, usually on their own. The weak point of the motor is the high pressure fuel pump (TNVD). And then it can be considered a weak point rather conditionally, any problems with it can begin after 200 kilometers.
These engines were installed on a relatively small number of models:
- Nissan Terrano II;
- Nissan Mistral
- Nissan Homy aka Caravan;
- Isuzu Fargo

Nissan Terrano II
As you might guess, this is the second generation of a frame SUV, popular in the world, but not very popular with us. By the way, we have more light on the first generation of this model, but it's not about him now. This model was produced from 1993 to 2006.
The photo above shows a three-door Nissan Terrano, but we rarely see such a complete set, we mainly sold cars with five doors.
In addition to the td27eti diesel engine, a 2,4-liter gasoline engine and a more powerful three-liter diesel engine were also installed on the car.
In addition to incredibly reliable engines, this car can also boast of an equally reliable body. This was achieved by galvanizing it.
Despite the fact that relatively few of these cars were sold in our country, they are still famous for their reliability and have quite a decent price in the secondary market.
In Russia, the minimum prices for cars that are not in very good condition, with the power unit described in this article, start at $ 4000. Cars in good condition sell for as low as $6000. And in perfect condition, with a mileage of around 100 kilometers, you won’t find cheaper than $ 000 at all. Yes, and to find for $ 10 you need to try very hard.
Nissan mistral
Under this name, the Nissan Terrano II described above was produced in Japan. Mistral differed from European cars in a set of power units. In Japan, cars were sold with only two engines, a 2,4-liter gasoline and a td27eti diesel.
Nissan Homy/Caravan/Urvan
This is a compact minibus, according to some classification a minivan, well known in our country. In Russia, these minivans were sold under the name Urvan.
Diesel engines TD27ETI were installed on the fourth generation of this model. This generation stood on the assembly line from 1986 to 2001 and, of course, our diesel engines were installed only after 1995, and at the beginning of production, earlier versions of 2,7 liter diesel engines were on it.
Isuzu Fargo
The second generation of the minivan of the oldest Japanese company was just a licensed Nissan minivan. Interestingly, it was produced exclusively with a TD27ETI diesel engine.
This model stood on the assembly line from 1995 to 2001.
