The gasoline 1.3-liter VAZ 2108 engine became the first power unit for front-wheel drive models of AvtoVAZ.

The 1.3-liter 8-valve VAZ 2108 carburetor engine was first introduced in 1984 along with the front-wheel drive Lada Sputnik. The motor is the basic power unit in the so-called eighth series.

The eighth family also includes internal combustion engines: 21081 and 21083.

AvtoVAZ thought about the production of a front-wheel drive model back in the early seventies of the last century, and the first prototype appeared in 1978. Especially for her, VAZ developed a completely new transverse motor with a timing belt drive. The engineers of the famous German company Porsche took an active part in fine-tuning this power unit.

Owners of Lada cars of the eighth and ninth families love their engines for their simplicity of design and low cost of operation. They practically do not consume oil, they are moderately economical, and most importantly, any spare parts for them cost a penny. Small problems arise here all the time, but they are also solved inexpensively.

It is recommended to change the oil every 10 thousand km, and preferably more often. To do this, you will need about 3 liters of any normal semi-synthetics such as 5W-30 or 10W40, as well as a new oil filter. More on video.
