Volkswagen (VAG) has developed another MPI engine, which is included in the line of VAG units EA111-1,6 (ABU, AEE, AZD, BCB, BTS, CFNA and CFNB).

Description

The engine engineers of the Volkswagen auto concern based on the ATN engine created a new version of the power unit, called the AUS. Its main purpose is to equip cars of a mass-market concern.

The engine was produced from 2000 to 2005 at the VAG plant.

The internal combustion engine retained the cast-iron cylinder block, due to which, at the expense of weight reduction, reliability and maintainability were increased.

The pistons are lightweight, with three grooves for the rings. Two upper compression, lower oil scraper. The piston skirts are coated with graphite to reduce friction. Piston pins are made in the standard version - floating, fixed in bosses with retaining rings.

The crankshaft is fixed in five bearings. Unlike 1,4 MPI, the shaft and main bearings can be replaced separately from the block.

The block head on AUS is 16-valve, with two camshafts. The shafts are located in a special bed. The valves are equipped with hydraulic compensators that automatically adjust their thermal clearance.

The timing drive is two-belt. On the one hand, this design made it possible to significantly reduce the size of the cylinder head, on the other hand, it played a negative role in the reliability of the drive. The manufacturer has not established the life of the belts, but strongly recommends that they be carefully inspected every 30 thousand km of the car.

The reliability of the unit is beyond doubt, but subject to the car owner observing several postulates of the manufacturer.

First, you need to use high-quality fuel. Power, durability, stable operation and mileage depend on this.
