Ford 1.5 TDCi engines

1.5-liter Ford 1.5 TDCi diesel engines have been produced since 2012 and during this time they have acquired a considerable number of models and modifications.

The 1.5-liter 8-valve Ford 1.5 TDCi diesel engines were introduced only in 2012 as a further development of the 1.6 TDCi series engines, developed jointly with the PSA concern. However, Peugeot-Citroen have now switched to their own line of 16-valve 1.5 HDi diesels.

This family also includes engines: 1.4 TDCi and 1.6 TDCi.

Engine design Ford 1.5 TDCi

The 1.5 TDCi engine debuted in 2012 on the sixth generation Fiesta and similar B-Max and was an update to the 1.6 TDCi, only the piston diameter was reduced from 75 to 73.5 mm. The design of the new diesel engine has not changed much: an aluminum block with cast-iron sleeves, an aluminum 8-valve head equipped with hydraulic compensators, a timing belt drive, a Bosch Common Rail fuel system with a CP4-16 / 1 pump and electromagnetic injectors, as well as an MHI TD02H2 turbine for weak versions or Honeywell GTD1244VZ for more powerful ones.

In 2018, diesel engines were updated to the current Euro 6d-TEMP economy standards and received the name EcoBlue. However, due to their small distribution in our market, information on them has not yet been found.

Disadvantages, problems and breakdowns of the internal combustion engine 1.5 TDCi

Turbocharger failures

The most widespread problem of these diesel engines is the breakdown of the turbocharger actuator. Also, the turbine often fails due to the ingress of oil from the oil separator into it.

EGR valve contamination

With regular driving through traffic jams in this engine, the EGR valve clogs very quickly. Usually it requires cleaning every 30 - 50 thousand kilometers, or it can simply jam.

Typical diesel failures

Like any modern diesel engine, this power unit is picky about the quality of diesel fuel, the frequency of changing oil and filters. It is also important to monitor the condition of the timing belt.

The manufacturer indicated an engine resource of 200 km, but they usually go up to 000 km.
