Ford Duratec HE engines

The Ford Duratec HE series of gasoline engines has been produced since 2000 in four different volumes: 1.8, 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 liters.

The range of Ford Duratec HE gasoline engines has been produced at the company's factories since 2000 and is installed on many popular concern models, such as Focus, Mondeo, Galaxy and C-Max. This series of units was developed by Japanese engineers and is also known as the Mazda MZR.

Engine design Ford Duratec HE

In 2000, Mazda introduced a line of in-line 4-cylinder engines under the MZR index, which included L-series gasoline engines. And so they got the name Duratec HE on Ford. The design was classic for that time: an aluminum block with cast iron sleeves, an aluminum 16-valve DOHC block head without hydraulic lifters, a timing chain drive. Also, these power units received a system for changing the intake geometry and an EGR valve.

Over the entire period of production, these motors have been modernized more than once, but the main innovation was the appearance of a phase regulator on the intake shaft of the internal combustion engine. It began to be installed in 2005. Most of the modifications had distributed fuel injection, but there were versions with direct fuel injection. For example, the third generation Ford Focus was equipped with a Duratec SCi engine with the XQDA index.

Disadvantages, problems and breakdowns of the Duratec HE internal combustion engine

Floating revolutions

The bulk of the complaints are related to the unstable operation of the engine and there are many reasons for this: failures of the ignition system and electronic throttle, air leakage through the VKG pipe, the EGR valve freezing, a breakdown of the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator in it.

Maslozhor

The mass problem of the engines of this series is the oil burner due to the occurrence of rings. Decarbonizing usually does not help and the rings have to be changed, often along with the pistons. On long runs, the cause of lubricant consumption here may already be seizures in the cylinders.

intake flaps

The intake manifold is equipped with a geometry change system and it often fails. Moreover, both its electrovacuum drive and the axle itself with dampers fail. It is better to order spare parts for replacement through the Mazda catalog, where they are much cheaper.

Minor Issues

The weak points of this motor also include: the right support, the rear crankshaft oil seal, the water pump, the generator, the thermostat and the attachment belt drive roller. Also here is a very expensive procedure for adjusting valves by selecting pushers.

The manufacturer indicated an engine resource of 200 km, but it easily runs up to 000 km.
