Ford Split Port Engines

The Ford Split Port line of gasoline engines was produced from 1996 to 2004 in a single 2.0 liter volume.

The Ford Split Port series of gasoline engines was produced at the plant in the USA from 1996 to 2004 and was installed on the American versions of such popular models of the company as the Escort and Focus. Split Port motors are part of the CVH range of overhead motors, known since 1980.

Ford Split Port Engine Design

The CVH range of overhead motors has been produced since 1980, but the first Split Port appeared in 1996. The internal combustion engine got its name from the intake system with two channels per cylinder, which made it possible to regulate the air supply depending on the engine operating modes. At first, such motors were installed only on the American Escort, and since 2000 also on the Focus.

The design was quite common for the 80s of the last century: a cast-iron cylinder block, an aluminum 8-valve cylinder head with rocker arms and hydraulic lifters, a timing belt drive. Hemispherical combustion chambers and the same Split Port system are considered features.

Modifications of Ford Split Port engines

Disadvantages, problems and breakdowns of the internal combustion engine Focus 1 Split Port

Valve seat destruction

The most famous motor problem is the destruction and loss of valve seats. This breakdown on these engines is found everywhere on runs over 100 km.

Oil and antifreeze leaks

Such power units are famous for frequent leaks of lubricant and coolant. Keep an eye on their level, as overheating and cranking of liners on these internal combustion engines are not uncommon.

Timing belt

Timing belt drive and with a decent resource, up to 120 thousand km it serves without problems. In addition, according to the glorious American tradition, when the valve belt breaks, there is no oppression here.

Other disadvantages

The owners of Focuses with such an engine complain about the noisy operation of their power unit, and with mileage, the internal combustion engine is running louder and louder. Yes, and fuel consumption could be less.

The manufacturer indicated an engine life of 120 miles, but it lasts up to 000 miles.
