Kia Ceed engines
Content
Almost every driver is familiar with the Kia Ceed model, this car was specially designed for operation in Europe.
The concern's engineers took into account the most common wishes of Europeans.
The result was a fairly distinctive car, which was excellently acquired.
Car review
This car has been produced since 2006. The prototype was shown for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 2006. In the autumn of the same year, the final version was presented in Paris, which became serial.
The first cars were produced in Slovakia at a factory located in the city of Zilin. The model was developed directly for Europe, so production was originally planned only in Slovakia. The assembly of almost the entire line was immediately started, a convertible was added in 2008.
Since 2007, the car has been produced in Russia. The process was set up at the Avtotor plant in the Kaliningrad region.
Please note that the first generation shares the same platform with the Hyundai i30. Therefore, they have the same engines, as well as gearboxes. This fact sometimes confuses drivers when they are offered to buy components in stores that are designed for Hyundai.
In 2009, the model was slightly updated. But, this affected mainly the interior and exterior. Therefore, within the framework of this article, we will not consider the features of restyled cars of the first generation.
The second generation
This generation of Kia Sid can be considered current. Cars have been produced since 2012 and still. First of all, the engineers brought the appearance in line with current requirements. Thanks to this, the model began to look quite fresh and modern.
New powertrains have been added to the powertrain lineup. This approach made it possible to select a modification individually for each motorist. Also, some of the already used motors received a turbine. Cars that have received turbocharged power units have a more sporty look, they have the Sport prefix. In addition to a more powerful engine, there are completely different suspension settings and other structural elements.
The second generation Kia Sid cars are produced at the same factories as before. All of them are also designed for Europeans. In general, this is a fairly high-quality C-class car, ideal for city use.
What engines were installed
Since the model had a large number of modifications, accordingly, they were often equipped with different motors. This allowed for the most efficient breakdown by indicator. In total, there are 7 engines in the line for two generations, and 2 of them also have a turbocharged version.
To begin with, it is worth considering the main characteristics of the internal combustion engines installed on the Kia Ceed. For convenience, we summarize all the motors in one table.

As you can see, many engines have very similar parameters, differing only in small things. This approach allows at some points to unify components, simplifying the supply of spare parts to service centers.
Almost every model of the power unit has its own characteristics. Therefore, we will consider them in more detail.
G4FC
It occurs quite widely. It was installed on all generations, as well as restyled versions. Differs in rather high reliability and profitability. Thanks to a system that allows you to change the clearance of the valves during operation, the level of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere is reduced.
Some parameters may vary depending on the modification. This is due to the settings of the control unit. Therefore, the same motor on different vehicles may have different output characteristics indicated in the documentation. The average service life before overhaul is 300 thousand kilometers.
G4FA
This engine was installed only on station wagons and hatchbacks. This is due to traction characteristics, the motor works fine under load, and this feature of operation is typical for station wagons. Also, it was for this unit that gas equipment was offered for the first time for the model, which reduced fuel costs.
Produced since 2006. Technically, no changes have been made during this time. But, at the same time, the control unit was modernized. In 2012, he received a completely new filling, which somewhat reduced fuel consumption and improved dynamics. According to the reviews of drivers, the motor does not cause any special problems, subject to timely service.
G4FJ Turbo
This is the only power unit from the entire line that has only a turbocharged version. It was developed for the sports version of Kia Sid and was installed only on it. That is why the engine is not too well known to domestic motorists.
You can meet him on pre-styling hatchbacks of the second generation. Since 2015, it has been installed only on restyled cars.
It has the highest power in the entire line, with certain settings, this figure reaches 204 hp. At the same time, relatively little fuel is consumed. Efficiency is achieved with the help of a modified gas distribution mechanism.
G4FD
This diesel engine can be supplied both in atmospheric version and with an installed turbine. At the same time, the supercharger is rare, the engine with it was installed only in 2017 on restyled cars. The atmospheric version was installed on Kia Sid in 2015, before that it could be seen on other models of this brand.
Like any diesel engine, it is highly economical. To care unpretentious. But, it must be borne in mind that the quality of the fuel affects trouble-free operation. Any contamination can lead to failure of the injection pump or clogging of the injectors. Therefore, owners of cars with such a unit choose gas stations very carefully.
D4FB
The diesel unit used on the first generation of the model. Two options were offered:
- atmospheric;
- turbo.
This motor belongs to the previous generation of units that were developed by a Korean manufacturer. There are a number of disadvantages. Compared to more modern engines, there is a higher level of pollution in the exhaust gases. Premature failure of the injection pump is also common.
Of the advantages, one can note a fairly simple maintenance, there are no particular difficulties even when repairing in a garage. Also, since the engine was created on the basis of a model used on other cars, there is a high interchangeability of components with other Kia engines.
D4EA-F
This diesel engine with a turbine, which was installed only on the first generation of Kia Ceed. At the same time, it was not already installed on restyled cars. Can only be found on station wagons produced in 2006-2009.
Despite the low consumption, many parts and components of the engine turned out to be unreliable. Quite often, the batteries failed. They also proved to be unstable to valve burnout. All this led to the fact that the motor was quickly abandoned. He was replaced by more modern models of power plants.
G4GC
A fairly widespread motor, it can be found on almost all modifications of the first generation. It was originally developed for the Hyundai Sonata, but later it was also installed on the Ceed. In general, it began to be produced in 2001.
Despite good technical performance, by 2012 this motor was somewhat outdated. First of all, problems began to arise with the level of exhaust pollution. For a number of reasons, it turned out to be more profitable to completely abandon it than to process it to modern requirements.
Which motors are more common
The most common is the G4FC engine. This is due to the duration of its operation. The first cars had just such a motor. The duration of operation is associated with successful technical solutions.
Other motors are much less common. Moreover, in Russia there are practically no turbocharged units, this is due to the peculiarities of their operation. Also, low popularity is due to the general opinion of drivers that such motors are more voracious.
The most reliable internal combustion engine on offer
If we consider the engines offered for Kia Sid in terms of reliability, then the G4FC will definitely be the best. Over the years of operation, this motor has received a large number of positive reviews from drivers.
Even with careless operation, no problems arise. On average, power units go without overhaul for more than 300 thousand kilometers, which is now rare.
