This power unit was produced from 1990 to 2000. During this time it has been modernized several times. As a result, a whole family of motors with similar performance appeared. All engines are distinguished by a fairly high reliability, but at the same time they have common diseases.

The engine was produced at once at several enterprises that were part of the Nissan concern at that time. A motor was created with an eye on the new lines of passenger cars that Nissan was launching at that time. Therefore, engineers tried to make the unit as versatile as possible. On the whole, they succeeded.

Let's analyze the main features of the repair of this engine. During operation, despite positive reviews, it may be necessary to replace some parts. This is a normal process.

Most often, one has to face the need to replace the timing drive, the belts serve an average of 50-60 thousand kilometers. The price of this work is low, but it will save you from overhauling the engine.

You should also carefully look at the quality of the fuel. The cd20 injection pump does not tolerate contaminated fuel very well and can fail.

When installing a new pump, make sure that the marks match. Somewhere every 100000 km you will need to replace the fuel pump. It may also be necessary to clean the nozzles regularly.

The ICE head can also cause some problems. The gasket under the cylinder head under certain conditions can burn through, but it is not difficult to replace it. It may also be necessary to install a lambda probe on cd20e, it is better to use a part from Japan. Antifreeze circulation may also be disturbed.

Ignition can't go astray on cd20eti, diesels don't have it. The reason is low compression or a failed timing cycle. Sometimes it’s enough just to adjust the timing, it’s worth checking whether the piston rings are in order, if they are stuck, a major overhaul is required. At the same time, for cd20et it is necessary to change the crankshaft, since there are no repair dimensions. In some cases, it is easier to buy a contract engine. This motor may have problems with attachments. The starter often fails, or rather the bendix wears out quickly, it is enough just to replace it. Another of the attachments may fail the pump. It is recommended that when adding electronic equipment, a 20-amp cd90 generator be installed on the car.

Particular attention should be paid to the transmission. The instruction manual says that improper operation can lead to malfunction. In this case, it is better to purchase a complete clutch kit. The manual also recommends changing the lubricant in the automatic transmission every 40 thousand kilometers.

The last model on which the cd20et was massively installed was the second generation Nissan Avenir. These cars were equipped with a similar engine until April 2000.
