The Nissan GA engine series includes engines with a cylinder capacity of 1.3-1.6 liters. It includes the popular "small cars" GA13DE and GA13DS with a volume of 1.3 liters. They appeared in 1989 and replaced the E-series engines.

They were installed on cars of the middle and budget class of Nissan, equipped with two camshafts (DOHC system), four valves per cylinder, they can have a carburetor or fuel injection system.

The first units - GA13DE, GA13DS - were produced from 1989 to 1998. They are the smallest engines of the entire GA series and were installed on passenger station wagons and city models of Nissan SUNNY / PULSAR. In particular, the GA13DE engine was installed on the 8th generation Nissan Sunny from 1993 to 1999 and on the Nissan AD from 1990 to 1999. GA13DS engines, in addition to the models mentioned, were also equipped with Nissan Pulsar from 1990 to 1994.

This eliminates the risk of a broken chain (as happens with timing belts), which can eventually lead to bending of the valves. There are two chains in the motors of this series - one connects the crankshaft gear and the double intermediate gear, the other connects the intermediate gear and two camshafts.

The motor is devoid of complex solutions in the gas distribution mechanism, which also reduces the complexity of maintenance.

It is believed that Nissan's GA series engines are direct competitors to Japanese Toyota A series engines with the same cylinder capacity. Moreover, the Nissan GA13DE, GA13DS internal combustion engines are more reliable, although this is just the opinion of experts.

Reliability

GA series motors are highly reliable and durable, they are free from problems associated with design or technical miscalculations. That is, there are no typical diseases specific to GA13DE, GA13DS engines.

However, malfunctions that occur due to aging and wear of the power plant cannot be ruled out. Oil entering the combustion chambers, increased gas mileage, possible antifreeze leaks - all these shortcomings can be in all old engines, including GA13DE, GA13DS.

And although their resource is quite high (without overhaul it is 300 thousand kilometers), purchasing a car based on this internal combustion engine today is a big risk. Taking into account natural aging and high mileage, these motors are unable to “run” another 50-100 thousand km without problems. However, thanks to their distribution and simplicity of design, with systematic service at service stations, cars based on GA engines can still be driven.

Nissan has created high-quality power plants that have been successfully operating for decades. Today, on the roads of Russia, you can still find "compact cars" with GA13DE and GA13DS engines.

In addition, contract engines are sold on the relevant resources. Their price, depending on the mileage and condition, is 25-30 thousand rubles. For such a long time on the market, this unit is still in demand, which confirms its reliability and high performance.
