Nissan VH41DE, VH45DE engines

In 1991, for a car of the Limited L category - Nissan Sima, an internal combustion engine based on the VH45DE - VH41DE was specially developed.

This power unit has a V-shaped BC, similar to its predecessor, made of aluminum. The piston stroke is 76 mm, and the cylinder diameter is 93 mm, the connecting rods are 147 mm long.

Under the two cylinder heads, equipped with hydraulic compensators and the VTC system, there were 4 valves (with diameters of 38 and 33 mm, intake and exhaust, respectively) for each cylinder.

VH45DE engine

In 1989, the Y44 engine for the Nissan Infiniti Q45 was replaced by the VH45DE power unit. In the aluminum V-shaped BC were installed: a crankshaft with a piston stroke (32 mm high) - 82.7 mm, and connecting rods, long - 147 mm.

Two-shaft cylinder heads with hydraulic compensators had a VTC system. A single-row chain was used in the timing drive.Nissan VH41DE, VH45DE engines

Serial production of the VH45DE was completed in 2002.

Advantages and problems of VH41DE, VH45DE

On the VH41DE, unlike the VH45DE, a double-row timing chain and metal guides were installed. From this point of view, the VH41 ICEs were more reliable than their predecessor. Otherwise, the engine proved to be no less durable. It was only necessary to timely monitor its technical condition, pour high-quality gasoline and suitable oil.

For a long time of operation, the VH45DE motor has established itself as an extremely reliable unit. However, the timing chain guides, made of plastic and failing after ~ 150 thousand km. mileage, slightly spoiled the overall impression of the engine. There were also problems with the MAF.

All "sores" VH41DE, VH45DE are associated with their age. If you pour good fuel, oil recommended by Nissan (5W-30/40; 10W-30/40), regularly service, then there will be no problems with both brands of engines.

Tuning VH41DE, VH45DE

As for the VH41DE, the easiest way is to install a cold inlet, 4-2-1 manifold, 76mm exhaust and chip tuning. All this will greatly enhance the pleasant sound of the engine and add power to it. To return the VH41DE to its native volume of 4.5 liters without doing a swap, and get ~ 320 hp. power, you will need to install pistons and a crankshaft from VH45DE.

In the case of tuning the VH45DE, you can install a flashed control unit, a cold inlet, a 4-1 manifold and a 76 mm forward flow. All this will achieve up to 330 hp. and nice V8 sound. You can get even more “horses” with the help of high-quality tuning of the control unit, regrinding of factory camshafts, installing pistons for a higher compression ratio, as well as installing a tuned intake with a larger damper. So, more than 400 hp can be squeezed out of the engine.

For supercharging, you will have to create an expensive custom project, but the end result is definitely worth it.
