Note! The Skoda Roomster model was produced only in a front-wheel drive assembly. At the same time, most of the motors transmitted torque to the wheels through a manual gearbox, the version with a classic torque converter is found only for BTS brand motors.
A separate point is to highlight the versatility of motors for the Skoda Roomster. Absolutely all gasoline engines can be switched to propane or methane - the design of the power units supports the installation of gas equipment. The only bad option for the car was the 3-cylinder BME engine, which can only operate on high-octane AI-95 class fuel or higher. Refueling the engine with AI-92 gasoline or installing gas leads to wiping of the engine and is fraught with overheating of the cylinder head and a sharp decrease in the service life.
An interesting fact is the presence of the entire line of motors in each vehicle configuration. Skoda Roomster is not divided into hierarchical levels, as many automakers like to do - in any functional package and on any budget, you can buy a car with both a small BME engine and a powerful BSW or BLS line. Thanks to this, Skoda Roomster showed a stable growth in sales during large-scale production.
Skoda Roomster: which engine model is better to choose?
Despite the variety of power units, only BTS, BSW, BLS motors were especially popular with the population. Subcompact engines turned out to be weak enough for comfortable movement on Russian roads - drivers had to constantly keep high engine speeds and constantly change gears. That is why, when looking for a car in the secondary market, it is recommended to look at engines with a working chamber capacity of 1.6 or 1.9 liters.
In turn, for comfortable movement within the boundaries of a large city, it would be appropriate to purchase a BTS model on hydromechanics, while a manual transmission option with BTS, BSW, BLS engines will be a good choice for a family car. At the same time, you can safely buy both gasoline and diesel engines from Skoda - the only thing you will have to do before purchasing for reinsurance is a complete diagnosis of the engine and transmission. In fact, the first generation Skoda Roomster is a good option for almost any purpose - if you find a car in the secondary market in good condition, you will definitely be satisfied.
