The modern Rapid liftback was introduced by Skoda in 2011 in Frankfurt as a concept called the MissionL. The finished product entered the European market a year later. In 2013, the novelty reached the CIS countries, and soon became available to Russian motorists.

History of the model

The name "Rapid" has been repeatedly used by the Czech company. It gained popularity in 1935, when the first car of this model rolled off the assembly line. Skoda Rapid was produced for 12 years and was in demand by wealthy citizens. There were four types of cars: two-door and four-door convertibles, van and sedan.

Steady demand for the model was due to the design features - novelties for that time: a tubular frame, independent front and rear suspensions, a hydraulic brake system. Rapid sold well not only in Europe but also in Asia. It was not supplied to other markets.

The most powerful equipment had a 2,2-liter engine, 60 hp. He allowed to accelerate to 120 km / h. 4 types of engines were used for different modifications and price categories. In total, about six thousand cars were produced. The release of the series was discontinued in 1947 and the next time the name "Rapid" was revived only after 38 years.

The new, sporty, Rapid burst into the automotive market in 1985 and immediately conquered it. The two-door coupe variant was the only body style available. The car had rear-wheel drive, was equipped with 1,2 and 1,3 liter engines, with power from 54 to 62 hp, depending on the modification. Rapid had good stability and excellent handling. In the most powerful configuration, the maximum speed reached 153 km / h. Up to a hundred kilometers per hour, acceleration took place in 14,9 seconds. The car was produced for 5 years, and then the name "Rapid" was forgotten for many years. And only in 2012 it returned to the Skoda lineup.

Appearance

The appearance of Skoda Rapid in the Russian Federation took place in 2014. These were domestically assembled cars produced at a plant in Kaluga. The car has been modified taking into account the specifics of the Russian climate. Also, improvements and improvements were made to the design - the operating experience in Europe, where this model appeared two years earlier, was taken into account.

Modern Rapid has a recognizable appearance. Initially, it was developed for respectable people with an average income. And he was ready to please them with the strict clarity of lines, executed confidently, gracefully and even with some pedantry.

The air intake and the original front bumper give the car an aggressive look. But in general, thanks to the streamlined body shape and chrome elements, it looks solid. The perfect combination of these qualities in the design, in the end, made it suitable for use by a wide range of motorists of different ages and incomes.

The machine is equipped with fog lamps that illuminate the direction of the turn at speeds below 40 km/h. Curved taillights are clearly visible at any time of the day and in any weather. In 2017, the model was restyled. Skoda managed to solve two problems at the same time: to correct the design, slightly changing the appearance of the car, and to improve the aerodynamics of the body. Technical specifications

All types of Skoda Rapid are produced with front-wheel drive. They have an independent front suspension and a semi-independent rear (on a torsion beam). Disc brakes are installed on each wheel. At first, the CGPC became the basic type of motor of the model. It had a small volume - 1,2 liters and was a three-cylinder. Its design is a cast aluminum body with embedded cast-iron sleeves. The motor has a distributed injection. It does not have high power compared to other modifications of the line, which, however, leads to low fuel consumption.

Drivers often praised the motor for efficiency, and some even recommended a complete set for driving within the city. The maximum speed was 175 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h was carried out in 13,9 s. Cars with this engine were equipped with a manual transmission (five-speed).

Later, the manufacturer refused to install 1,2 liter engines on Rapid. Also, CAXA-type motors were no longer mounted on the model, they were replaced by a more powerful, improved CZCA. When the EA111 ICE series was replaced by the new EA211 development, then the 105 hp motors were replaced. came the now popular 110-horsepower CWVA.

The most common engines

One of the most popular engines from the EA111, EA211 series is CGPC (1,2l, 75 hp). It has advantages even over more powerful internal combustion engines of the same series. This, of course, is low fuel consumption and high engine reliability. In 2012, he replaced the engines of the previous generation. The main advantages include the use of an aluminum cylinder block with cast-iron liners and the replacement of the timing chain with a belt.

No less popular were the EA211 series engines - CWVA and CFW. The series is better than its predecessors, because for a long time VW Corporation could not cope with poor engine warm-up at startup. In addition, there were a number of other design flaws that had to be quickly “treated” with hasty modifications. The main disadvantages of EA 111 include:

But these problems have been completely eliminated in the EA211. Engineers have finally managed to get rid of many small flaws and change bad decisions. They created good, stable engines with 110 and 90 hp. and a volume of 1,6 liters.

These units also had to go through the stage of "childhood illnesses", but small changes could solve all the difficulties that arose. Engines are often criticized for high oil consumption and quick coking of oil scraper rings. This problem is associated with narrow oil outlet channels. One solution is to use thinner oils with more working additives. However, it is recommended to check the oil level as often as possible. Despite a number of features of the engine, its resource will be no less than 250 thousand kilometers.

Which engine is the best choice for a car?

CZCA 1,4L turbocharged is a good solution for anyone who loves powerful engines with a quick set of speeds. They cool perfectly, the temperature-reducing system has two circuits and is equipped with two thermostats. The circuits are actuated independently of each other. The experience of previous models was taken into account and several design solutions were implemented to ensure quick engine warm-up. One of them is the integration of the exhaust manifold into the cylinder head. Turbocharging is equipped with a fully electronic control, which leads to high efficiency of its work. This is the most powerful engine installed on this model, it is really good and can give odds to many more eminent brothers. The unit is considered reliable and has no serious flaws. However, it requires a special attitude: you can only refuel with 98 gasoline, and the oil must be of high quality.

Buy a car with a 1,6 l 90 hp engine. - a good option for a prudent owner who does not like to waste money. There are several savings here. Firstly, the tax on the "iron horse" will be lower, several times lower in some regions. Secondly, according to the manufacturer's recommendations, the octane number of gasoline should be no less than 91. This means that it will be possible to save on fuel using cheaper 92nd gasoline. The engine pulls well - after all, the moment, and the power is the same as that of the CWVA - 110 hp. Of course, it will not be possible to “fly” and “tear” everyone at the traffic lights, but for an experienced and calm driver, as well as for trips with the family, this is not required.
