Toyota is a popular brand in Russia. To meet a car of this brand on the road is easy. But to see Toyota Alphard in our country is already closer to rarity. In Japan, this car is driven by guys who like to call themselves yakuza.

We have wealthy families driving Toyota Alphards. It is noteworthy that in Russia, people who position themselves by analogy with the yakuza choose the Land Cruiser from Toyota, while in the homeland of the brand, it is wealthy families that are closer to retirement age who drive Kruzaks.

But now we are talking about something completely different. Namely, about engines for Toyota Alphard. Consider all the motors that were installed on these cars of different generations and for different markets. It's worth starting with our car market.

The first appearance of Toyota Alphard in Russia

In our country, two generations of this luxury car were officially sold, and one generation underwent restyling during sales in our country. For the first time this car was brought to us in 2011, it was already a restyled version of the second generation, which was produced until 2015. It was luxury in its purest form, driving this car is a pleasure. It was equipped with a 2GR-FE engine with a volume of 3,5 liters (V-shaped "six"). Here, the internal combustion engine produced a solid 275 "horses".

In addition to Alphard, the following models of the manufacturer's cars were equipped with this power unit:

  • Lexus ES350 (sixth generation of the car from 04.2015 to 08.2018);
  • Lexus RX350 (third generation from 04.2012 to 11.2015);
  • Toyota Camry (eighth generation of cars, second restyling from 04.2017 to 07.2018);
  • Toyota Camry (eighth generation, first restyling from 04.2014 to 04.2017);
  • Toyota Camry (eighth generation of the model from 08.2011 to 11.2014);
  • Toyota Highlander (third generation car from 03.2013 to 01.2017);
  • Toyota Highlander (second generation of the model from 08.2010 to 12.2013).

On different car models, the 2GR-FE engine had different settings that slightly affected its power, but it always remained within 250-300 "mare".

Third generation Toyota Alphard in Russia

At the beginning of 2015, the Japanese brought a new Toyota Alphard to Russia, it definitely did not become more modest. It was once again a luxury, modern design, complemented by all the advanced technologies of the automotive industry. This car was sold with us until 2018. The changes affected the body, optics, interior and other things. The developers did not touch the engine, the same 2GR-FE engine remained here as on its predecessor. Its settings remained the same (275 horsepower).

Since 2017, a restyled version of the third generation Toyota Alphard has become available for purchase in Russia. It is produced to this day. The car has become even more beautiful, more modern, more comfortable and more technologically advanced. And under the hood, Alphard still had the 2GR-FE engine, but it was reconfigured a little. Now its power has become equal to 300 horsepower.

The car first entered the local market in 2002. As a motor, a bunch of 2AZ-FXE internal combustion engines (2,4 liters (131 hp) and an electric motor) were installed on the car. But the lineup of the first generation was not limited to the hybrid version. There were just gasoline versions, they had a 2,4-liter 2AZ-FE engine under the hood, which produced 159 horsepower. In addition, there was also a top version with a 1MZ-FE engine (3 liters of working volume and 220 “horses”).

In 2005, the model was restyled. It has become more modern and better equipped. The same engines remained under the hood (2AZ-FXE, 2AZ-FE and 1MZ-FE) with the same settings.

The next generation Alphard came out in 2008. The body of the car was rounded, giving it a style, the interior decoration was also redesigned to match the time. The second generation was equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine, which was tuned so that it began to produce 170 horsepower (2,4 liters). It was the most popular ICE, but it was not the only one for the model. There was also a 2GR-FE engine, which, with its volume of 3,5 liters, had a capacity of 280 “mares”.

In 2011, a restyled version of the second generation Alphard was released for the Japanese market. It was a stylish, fashionable car that stood out both in design and “stuffing”. Under the hood, this model could have a 2AZ-FXE engine that produced 150 horsepower with a displacement of 2,4 liters. There was also a 2AZ-FE, this power unit also had a volume of 2,4 liters, but its power was 170 horsepower.

There was also a top-end engine - 2GR-FE, which, with a volume of 3,5 liters, produced 280 hp, the dynamics of this power unit was impressive.

Since 2015, the third generation Toyota Alphard has become available in the Japanese market. The model was again made more beautiful and modern. Under the hood, she had slightly different engines. The most economical engine was marked as 2AR-FXE (2,5 liters and 152 "horses"). Another power unit for this generation of the model was called 2AR-FE - this is also a 2,5-liter engine, but with a slightly increased power up to 182 hp, the top-end internal combustion engine for Alphard of this period is 2GR-FE (3,5 liters and 280 hp).

Since 2017, a restyled third-generation Alphard has been on sale. The model has changed externally and internally. She is very beautiful, comfortable, modern, rich and expensive. The machine is equipped with several different motors. The most modest version of the internal combustion engine is the 2AR-FXE (2,5 liters, 152 horsepower). 2AR-FE is an engine with the same volume (2,5 liters), but with a power of 182 "horses". These motors migrated from the pre-styling version. There is only one new engine for the restyled version of the third generation - this is the 2GR-FKS. Its working volume is 3,5 liters with a power of 301 "horses".
