VW EA211 Engines

The line of 4-cylinder engines VW EA211 has been produced since 2011 and during this time has acquired a considerable number of different models and modifications.

The VW EA4 family of 211-cylinder engines was first introduced in 2011 and has almost completely replaced the old line of EA111 power units from all markets. Usually they are divided into three series: atmospheric MPi, turbocharged TSI and new EVO turbo engines.

Engines EA211 MPi

In 2011, in the European market, outdated EA111 motors were replaced by new EA211 units. The first 1.0-liter versions had only 3 cylinders and were equipped with distributed injection.

We do not offer such engines, but they are often found on small cars in Europe:

In our market, atmospheric power units of this family appeared only in 2014, but in a more classic form: with four cylinders and a normal volume of 1.6 liters.

The main difference from its predecessor in the form of the popular CFNA unit was the return to a timing belt drive instead of a flimsy chain, as well as the appearance of a phase shifter on the intake. A serious disadvantage was the combination of the exhaust manifold with the cylinder head, now it cannot be replaced.

EA211 TSI engines

In 2012, it's time to update the small turbo engines with direct fuel injection. The 1.2-liter unit retained the block, but received a 16-valve cylinder head and an inlet dephaser. As well as on atmospheric engines, the timing chain drive has given way to a belt here.

Around the same time, the generation was replaced by a larger 1.4-liter turbo engine. The 16-valve cylinder head was earlier, a timing belt and a second phase regulator appeared in powerful versions.

But the cylinder block in 1.4-liter power units is already completely different: cast iron has given way to aluminum and the configuration has changed, the piston has decreased, and its stroke has become longer.

The newest representatives of the series are 3-cylinder 1.0-liter turbo engines. Like their atmospheric counterparts, these internal combustion engines are not found in our country, but in Europe it is a bestseller.

Engines EA211 EVO

In 2016, a new generation of EA 211 power units was introduced under the name EVO. So far, it has only two representatives with a volume of 1.5 liters, but in the future there should be more of them.
