Wipers

The history of windshield wipers dates back to 1908, when the so-called "wiper line" was first patented. The first windshield washers were operated by the driver's hand. A little later, in the USA, a pneumatic method for driving wipers was invented. However, this mechanism was inefficient and worked in the opposite direction. The faster the car went, the more the wipers slowed down. Only the work of the inventor Robert Bosch improved the windshield wiper drive. An electric motor was used as a drive source, which, together with a worm gear, through a system of levers and hinges, set the wiper lever in front of the driver in motion.

This type of traffic quickly spread in Europe, as drivers often face the vagaries of the weather on that continent.

Today, the development of technology has made it possible to introduce many innovations (work programmers, rain sensors) that automate the operation of this device and do not attract the attention of the driver.

It should also be noted changes in the power plant. Until recently, the electric motors used to drive windshield wipers were unidirectional. Last year Renault Vel Satis used a reversible engine for the first time. A sensor located in the engine recognizes the actual position of the wiper arm and guarantees maximum wiper area. In addition, the built-in rain sensor adjusts the windshield cleaning frequency depending on the intensity of the rain. The adjustment system detects obstacles on the windshield such as accumulated snow or sticky ice. In such cases, the working area of the wipers is automatically limited to avoid damage to the mechanism. When not in use, the wiper electronically moves it to a park position outside the working area so that it does not interfere with the driver's view and does not create additional noise from the air flow.

One thing has not changed for a long time - natural rubber has been used in the production of rubber for the production of wiper blades for many years, because it has better properties and high wear resistance.
