Today we have a new question from the reader for our expert, who offers his opinion on what approach to use to eliminate leaks in the gearbox.

What is the challenge?

Get instructions for fixing a small hydraulic fluid leak in the gearbox. The reader says that he wants to eliminate it with a sealant at the junction of the two parts and at the same time avoid having to disassemble the parts completely, but expert advice is required to know if there is any sealant that may be more suitable for this operation.

What do we offer?

Our expert believes that depending on the nature of the breakdown, it is necessary to use several products, so we want to advise several options:

– To eliminate leaks between two parts of the gearbox, without having to dismantle it and without any crack or mechanical damage to the housing – it is recommended to seal the perimeter with LOCTITE 5900 or 5910.

- To repair leaks between two parts of the gearbox, but this time, after opening it but in the absence of cracks, a harder sealant such as LOCTITE 5188 or LOCTITE 518 is recommended.

– Finally, to eliminate leaks caused by cracks or surface damage, we recommend opting for cold welding paste.

Remember: sometimes it is better to spend more time from the very beginning in order to carry out the preparation correctly, because ultimately the same repair will need to be done twice. Only this will be a double waste of time and money.
