Electric motors: Volvo joins forces with Siemens

With the growing success of the electric vehicle industry, there is a growing number of partnerships between big names in the sector. Recently, Siemens just signed an agreement with Volvo.

The main goal of this partnership between two large world-renowned firms is the development of advanced technologies designed for improve the performance of electric vehicle engines produced by the Swedish brand. The battery charging system has also been redesigned to be more competitive in the market. These high-tech engines will then be integrated as quickly as possible into the next models Volvo will bring to the market. In fact, two hundred examples of the electric Volvo C30 will already be fitted with Siemens parts, allowing the test phases to begin in early 2012.

More than promising cooperation

Through this collaboration, both companies want to be the first to bring the next generation electric vehicle segment to market, especially when it comes to recharging batteries. The Siemens motors will deliver up to 108 kW of 220 Nm of torque for the Swedish model C 30. Both companies have many other surprises for their users. In addition, the Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid model will be launched in '2012, followed by a scalable platform architecture designed to make the entire Volvo lineup electric.
