You regularly write to us that Elektrowoz's statements and recommendations made you choose this particular electric vehicle over another. That is why we decided to share with you our rating of the models that we are considering for purchase. This ranking reflects our belief in what electric car is worth buying, at least for now, in the second quarter of 2021 – in that order.

Our quest for a car actually started with a Kia e-Niro 64kWh two years ago and the material below is the result of an update to the plan. We decided that the routes we take require 250 kilometers of motorways, 400+ kilometers if you drive slowly. In the first wave, we were intrigued by the Volkswagen ID.3 with a 77 kWh battery and 5 seats, which costs less than 210 PLN as standard, and which offers a compact size, a fairly comfortable interior and a reasonable trunk (tested.).

After checking the purchase price, it dawned on us: after all, the 4 kWh ID.77 starts at about a five-seat ID.3, it's more spacious and looks better:

1. Volkswagen ID.4 77 kWh in the Pro Performance Family version (PLN 231)

When we think of an editorial machine in the budget up to 220-230 thousand PLNour choice falls on the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance Family starting at PLN 223 or around PLN 790 with some additions. The most important technological advantages of this model:

  • Battery 77 kWh promising up to 515 WLTP units, that is, up to 440 km in kind in mixed mode or just over 300 km on the highway,
  • interior space with an external length of 4,58 meters (with large cars in the city it is dense),
  • 543 liters of luggage compartment.

The 150 kW (204 hp) engine. Probably the software bugs that appear in all models on the MEB platform will be annoying - see Skoda Enyaq iV / test - but there are fewer and fewer of them, and they do not make driving difficult. The car has important advantage: we like it... He is handsome, slender, comfortable, looks modern, but not intrusive.

Why not Kia e-Niro? Because it is denser, which is a significant disadvantage for the 2 + 3 family. Why not VW ID.3? If you need to save money, consider the VW ID.3 Pro S Tour 5 (from 207 PLN). Why not Skoda Enyaq iV? Because it costs the same, and we like it less. Why not a Mercedes EQA? Because the options are quickly bringing its price closer to the Tesla Model 3, and the battery is still 66,5 kWh. Why not the Hyundai Kona Electric? Because he is too small for our family. Why not Tesla 3 SR +? He has too little coverage, the editorial base is Warsaw, in fact, every trip requires payment.

And if we had 20 thousand zlotys more to spend ...:

2. Tesla Model 3 Long Range - our dear ideal (PLN 250)

In fact, the Tesla Model 3 is our ideal.... If we had 250 PLN 3 to spend, we would not hesitate to choose a white Tesla Model 4 LR with a white interior. Compared to Volkswagen ID.XNUMX, the car has a lot of advantages:

  • on the market longer,
  • more spacious,
  • comes complete with an autopilot (semi-autonomous driving system),
  • there are extras as standard, for which you need to pay extra at Volkswagen or elsewhere,
  • there is a heat pump,
  • has 73-74 kWh battery and better range,
  • has a drive on both axles and significantly better acceleration,
  • there are heated seats and steering wheel,
  • has matrix headlights,
  • allows the use of the Supercharger network at approximately PLN 1,3 / kWh.

From our point of view, the only negative is the length of the car (at 4,69 meters, parking in the city is tiring, the ID.4 is 10 cm shorter) and the smaller capacity of the luggage compartment. And that's what You have to add 20 PLN to it... It's so easy to say, “You've invested 20 XNUMX, and you already have it,” but you need to get the money from somewhere. We don't have them, and falling ad revenues are not encouraging 🙂

Why not a Ford Mustang Mach-E? Because we don't want to risk buying a car in the first year of production. Why not Tesla Model Y? Because it is not yet on sale and is planned in Poland at the end of the year. See also Mustang Mach-E note. Why not the Audi Q4 e-tron? Because we expect that we will not be able to afford it. Why not BMW iX3, Mercedes EQB, Mercedes EQC, Jaguar I-Pace? Since they are too expensive for us, we cannot afford them.

And if we decided that we would reduce costs by 70-80 thousand zlotys ...:

3. Kia e-Niro 64 kWh – safe alternative (up to PLN 170-180 thousand)

We're just trying to buy The publisher must decide whether buying an electrical editor will pay off.... If it turns out that a commitment of more than PLN 200 64 is too risky for us, we will return to the car that we have recommended with a clear conscience for years: Kii e-Niro XNUMX kWh.

The Kia e-Niro 64 kWh has 150 kW (204 hp), a 64 kWh battery and even over 400 kilometers of real range in mixed mode. It's smaller than the Volkswagen ID.4 and Tesla Model 3, with less luggage space and less cabin space. It offers a similar range, has a laid-back classic look and loads up to almost 80 kW. In short: it is “almost” like the VW ID.4, but costs tens of thousands of zlotys less.

The Kia e-Niro has another significant advantage: it has been on the market for several years, so we can buy an annual demo for a price slightly over 150 PLN. We look through such cars and see that not only we are hunting for them 😉

Why not VW ID.3? For this price, the Kia e-Niro offers the best value for money. Why not Nissan Leaf e +? Due to the presence of the Chademo charging port (we don't want that). Why not Kia e-Soul? If we can afford it, we prefer to pay extra for a more classic look. Why not Peugeot e-2008 or Citroen e-C4? We need a bigger model that can be used to travel around the city AND Poland.

If we wanted maximum savings, we would hunt for Kii e-Soul 64 kWh demo units. However, we would not choose models with batteries below 58 kWh (below the Nissan Leaf e + and VW ID.3 Pro), because we are looking for a car that could act as the only and basic car in the edition / family. ...

Let's go back to the ranking of the cheapest models.

Why not Kia EV6, Tesla Model Y, Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge?

The main premise of this ranking was that we choose cars here and now... Here and now, as an editor, we look at car offers, availability and funding options. Here and now, that is, in April 2021. There is no Kii EV6 or Ioniq 5 yet. And while the E-GMP and Tesla Model Y models with structured battery promise to be technologically interesting, we adhere to the principle that it is better to skip the first year of production.

As for the Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge, the price from PLN 268 is a bit staggering. Which does not change the fact that we are glad to ride it tomorrow, Wednesday, April 21
