What is an electric car

An electric vehicle is a vehicle powered by an electric battery. There are models of this type of car that can be started from the energy of the sun. Electric cars do not need gasoline, they do not have a gearbox. Developers Google and other giants are taking part in the development of self-driving cars powered by computer data.

Billions of dollars are invested in this branch of the automotive industry every year. In some countries in Asia, Europe and the United States, electric cars have already been introduced into use. The infrastructure necessary for this is being actively developed: lamp posts with the function of recharging cars and more. In Russia, electromobility production is under development. However, the models of electric vehicles of well-known Russian brands are entering the regional and world markets with a wide step. China is considered the largest manufacturer of electrical machines, exporting its products all over the world.

The history of the creation and use of electric vehicles

However, the potential of electric vehicles has not been fully realized due to the shortcomings of this car. The electric car was not designed for long journeys and caused difficulties with the almost constant need to recharge.

Interested in alternative energy sources in the 70s, at the height of the global energy crisis. Research was actively carried out in this area. But everyone happily forgot about it when the crisis ended.

Electric cars were again talked about in the nineties and two thousand, when the gas pollution of the largest cities in the world reached (and still reaches) its peak. Then the government decided to introduce cars on electricity in order to stabilize the ecological situation.

Benefits of electric vehicles

The main advantage of this car is undoubtedly its relative environmental friendliness. It does not burn gasoline, releasing tons of hazardous substances and products into the atmosphere. Also, the owners of such cars can save on gas: it is not known when the energy crisis will come again and gas prices will jump. A pleasant bonus will be the absence of noise and smell while driving.

Disadvantages of electric vehicles

Since these developments are just reaching their peak and are not yet intended for mass production, the prices for these cars are very high. The infrastructure of any city, especially in Russia, is not designed to maintain electric cars. In addition, batteries cannot provide a long trip without charging, which in turn lasts more than eight hours.

Are electric vehicles really harmless?

There is an opinion that all electric vehicles do not cause any damage to the environment. Not at all, scientists would say. What is the harm of a car that does not consume fuel? First, they produce batteries for electricity from thermal power plants, nuclear power plants, and so on. During the production process, these power plants generate a lot of harmful fumes. Secondly, at some point these batteries fail, and it becomes necessary to eliminate them.

When abandoned batteries are destroyed, due to their high toxicity, substances and chemicals hazardous to nature are released. So the claim that electric vehicles are completely safe for the environment is not entirely true. However, this branch of automotive construction is still developing, and over time, scientists will be able to reduce all "costs".

Electric cars have become actively used by many cities in the world as a means of transportation. Giant companies finance millions in the development of this industry. This type of car has its flaws, but every year electric vehicles are improving and becoming more environmentally friendly. Motorists around the world are arguing about electric cars. Some consider them cars of the future, others do not even consider them a car. So, it's safe to say that electric cars are a good alternative to gasoline-powered cars.
