Bosch e-bikes: what's new for 2018?

New motors, a built-in battery or an on-board computer upgrade ... Bosch showcased all of its new electric bikes for 2018 at an event in Germany.

New engines Active Line and Active Line Plus

The new Active Line and Active Line engines, presented as more compact, lighter and quieter than the previous generation, will join the range of the German equipment manufacturer from 2018.

The Active Line is 25% lighter than the previous generation, weighs 2.9 kg and features a completely new transmission concept that limits engine drag and unwanted noise. The Active Line plus, more focused on passengers who use an electric bike in everyday life, offers 50 Nm of torque and weighs about 3,2 kg.

New eMTB module

Designed for mountain bikes, electric mountain bikes, the eMTB-Modus replaces the Sport-Modus of the CX performance line and promises a gradual adjustment of assistance based on pedal pressure, with the motor automatically adapting to the type of ride. 

For retailers, the new eMTB-Modus is available from July 2017.

Battery built into frame

The Powertube 500 can be installed horizontally or vertically and provides optimal battery integration, which can now integrate perfectly into the frame while still being removable in no time. 

As the name suggests, the Powertube 500 uses a 500 Wh battery.

New electronic gearbox: Bosch eShift

The integrated eShift electronic shifting solution provides driving comfort, safety, greater range and reduced wear. Offered for the CX Performance Line, Performance Line, Active Line Plus and Active Line, the Bosch eShift electric drivetrain solution is now offered with Shimano's Rohloff hub. 

The Bosch transmission, offered in three new versions, will be available in 2018.

Bosch Nyon update

As every year, Bosch is updating its Nyon system, which includes new maps and new features such as altitude overview, battery usage and an optimized display for sporty driving.

In addition, the Bosch trip computer is equipped with a new numeric keypad, which makes it even more intuitive to use.
