E-bikes: Strasbourg wants to convince with a test

Strasbourg Mobilités has a fleet of 200 electric bicycles that it intends to offer for testing through the Vélhop network. Objective: to encourage the residents of Strasbourg to leave the car in the garage.

The e-bikes offered by Vélhop were provided by Mustache Bikes. Equipped with a central motor, they have hydraulic brakes, puncture-proof tires, 9 speeds and 4 levels of support. With a charge, the average autonomy is declared at the level of 50 kilometers.

In an effort to get people to launch the new service, Eurometropolis is offering its electric bikes for € 49 per month for the first three months. Then the price will be much more restraining: 102 euros per month. For the community, it is not a question of a long-term rental like other communities do, but rather of offering the opportunity to try out an electric bike for a period of time and at a reasonable price. One way to convince is through testing.

Seduced users can then reach out to one of the bike operator partners to take advantage of the € 2 per day offer with a 36-month commitment to purchase the labeled model. Enough to get rid of the often high initial purchase price of expensive models.

"VAE has significant potential to 'demotorise' households... 50 to 80% of users are people who used to use their car, not public transport, not regular bikes" This was announced to 20minutes.fr by the Deputy Mayor for Active Mobility Jean-Baptiste Gernet.
